    Gun Lake Info

Ben or anybody have some helpful info about Gun Lake. I'm fishing a T there July 21 and never been there. I've heard it's a great smallie lake.

Don't waste any time trying to find smallies on Gun.not to say that you could not catch one here or there but..not likely..if you were fishing early spring you could find a few but you need to find largies!!! I have done well on the south side of robbins bay...I like to throw DS rig or watermelon senko. Sometimes a mojo rig dragged through the thick grass is good too(centipede). Hastings point is good but I like to fish it a little deeper..10-20ft...DS or Jig. There are a series of humps on the southern end of the lake Just S of orangeville island..I think that is what it is called.. Good luck!!!

Hmmm... The T I fished there was won with smallies. I found a great LM spot through a canal and it was a circle canal with seawalls. Big LM were throughout.

I agree with Ben. Most of the time the smallies are hard to come by. I've caught them to 4lbs-2oz out there, and some real close to that. There are some toads, but hard to get.

There are LM's in there that can probably go 5 or 6 lbs. too. I have seen them, but couldn't get them when they were on the beds. I caught one last year 22 1/8". Blind in one eye.

Also a lot of big gah in there.

Gun is my favorite lake because it has all around good fishing. Right now it is down an awful lot, just like the others, so the hazards are a little more prominent. They even put buoys out on two of them that don't normally get marked.

Mike- you have the right lake alright! At the right time of the year the smallies go bonkers.

I fished a 2 day T the 3rd weekend of Sept... It was our classic. 1/2 the lake is too shallow and the other 1/2 too deep. KVD fishes Gun a good bit too.

    Re: Gun Lake Info (21XDC)

Is this the Gun Lake where Leader's Marine is???

If so I just want to say that is some of the clearest water I have ever seen in my life!!! I lived in Muskegon 6 years and fished all over the place and that Gun Lake has some clear ass water.

I remember sitting in 28 feet of water and watching the BlueGills follow me around hanging in the shade my boat was throwing...

I could actually see the weeds on the bottom casting shadows....

The only fish I could catch was off to the left of the ramp in some stained water I found.....

It is the Gun lake near leaders...but if you think Gun is clear you should see Gull lake...that is some gin clear water!!! Gun gets stirred up a little but gull stays pretty clear all of the time...its a big deep clear lake!!!

Well Ben I tied for first with 10.56 lb's all largemouth with the biggest at 2.76 all on a dropshot. I got 2 at Hastings point and 4 off the humps in the south end and culled one out. Thanks for the help I owe you some of these

    Ben,

I thought all spots for you were hot spots? Dont they just jump in the boat and give up when they see you coming?
