    ETEC and Lowrance Linked!

Well, thanks to John, I managed to hook up my ETEC 225 HO to my Lowrance 332. It went without a hitch. I used the following:

    - BRP part number 763517 harness
    - LEI Node Kit #119-50

I'll add the LMF-400, along with the EP-10 Flow Sensor, so that I can dedicate this to monitoring the fuel management issues. This is sweet! No more guessing what temp the motor is running at.

I was dissappointed with one thing. It turns out I only have 28 hours in one year of owning this motor. That tells me I'm not going fishing near enough!!!

I just wanted to add this for those considering hooking this up. It's plug and play and very easy to install.

Miguel, where did you get the harness? I want to do this on my rig! How did you run the harness from the lowrance net harness to the DLC on the motor?

I took my ETEC into the shop today to have the Lowarance Net hooked up. I don't plan on getting the LMF-400 and just use the LCX-25c. I could change my mind though, lol.

Re: ETEC and Lowrance Linked! (AB)

Grant: I got the harness from John. If your nice, he'll coordinate it w/ the hot parts chick named Reda! You'll see a perforated area next to the main hose going into the engine that's designed for additional cabling. I sliced a hole just big enough to pass that huge Lowrance connnector. I then ran it parallel to my hydraulic line into the hull. From there, I just tapped into my existing LGC-2000 line that was already routed to the head unit. No need to run additional line. You just utilize the "T"s. If it's not clear, I'll take a snapshot and post it. Let me know.

Yeah, it's a sad state of affairs when we put measely hours on our rigs. All work no play can make us...well you know.

One reason I'm going w/ the LMF in addition to the head unit is that I currently have a spot w/ a flasher in the dash and I never use it. So, in an effort to decrease all that clutter of info the ETEC has to offer, I figured I'll place that duty on the LMF. I'd like to install a fluid level sensor in the oil resorvoir.

Questions for the gurus: Is the fluid level sensor compatible w/ the sensor from the oil tank? Also, the NMEA units from the EMM for fuel consumption are given in L/hour. Can this be changed to Gal/hour? No big deal, just curious.

Re: ETEC and Lowrance Linked! (MigAz)

Thanks Miguel, that's what I needed to know. I was trying to figure out how you passed that big azz Lowrance connector through the engine cover... My rig already has the lowrancenet backbone in it, so it should be plug and play. The main thing I want to see is the engine temp. I assume the 332 displays this, correct? I'm not worried about hours, I'm dam close to triple digits in less than a year.

Re: ETEC and Lowrance Linked! (AB)

If you all ready have the backbone, you're home free. Yeah, that "proprietary" blue Lowrance connector raised a big stink because it wasn't adhering to the true NMEA 2000 standard. If they would have followed the standard correctly, it would be a small, knurled connector. Therefore, no need to cut a big slice. It's not a big deal.

Yeah, I have the enormous Tach set up along with the engine temp in big bold digital numbers. I feel much better now... I'll use this screen when running from hole to hole.

That is so cool, something to do this winter in the warm garage when it is freezing outdoors!

Also, the LMF-400 looks just like the new digital gauges from Evinrude, I wonder if they are made by same manufacture, just different name on them?

The Evinrude models are made by Lowrance. However, you lose out on functionality when you buy the LMF variant. I believe you don't get the trouble codes. No biggy, I really want the hours and TEMP!

Re: ETEC and Lowrance Linked! (MigAz)

    hey Mig,
The E-TEC sends out fuel flow data so you don't need the fuel flow sensor. Set the head unit or the gauge to use the engine as the 'fuel flow source'
The head unit will display the info in gph or Lph. Just change the 'units' setting.
The ep15 is compatible with fuel, oil, water, etc. You need to have a standard float type sensor in the oil tank of 240- 33 ohms. connect the ep15 to the senso and into the network with the tee. perform the 'search for bus devices' and then assign the purpose - oil.

Re: ETEC and Lowrance Linked! (mead)

Thanks for the tip, Mead. I see that my units are set for 'gallons', but I didn't see the flow rate units pick. I tryed to change it, but I didn't see where. I'll go at it again and see if I can find it.

Also, this just provides one with instantaneous fuel flow rate (g/hour), correct? How about a cumulative consumed value, i.e. total gallons consumed after zeroing?

How much does it cost for these parts. I have a 332C and 150 E-TEC - would love to monitor the motor from the 332C.

Check w/ Reda at CandO2 for the harness cost. They will vary from dealer to dealer.

The Node Kit is on sale at Cabelas for $32.88, excluding shipping. This is a good deal.

Also check your local tackle/fishing stores. Ours here have a bin of returned and extra bus parts. They charge $5-10 a part and will throw in for free if you purchase gauges etc.

Re: ETEC and Lowrance Linked! (SEAHORSE)

Seahorse, I'm new to this and like the idea of hooking up my motor to my 332c. I own a Ranger 188VS with a 175HP Etec. The boat has the NEMA backbone. Do I need all six of the items you listed? I noticed there is a 15' cable (76317) and a 25' cable (763511) are both of these needed? Also I see MigAz listed only two items. I'm not trying to create problems here, just want to be sure to get the correct parts needed the first time. Is there a drawing or info on how all this should be connected?

Since you already have the network installed in the boat, you only need the EMM (engine computer) cable from the motor ($46), P/N 763517, and the T-connector ($13), P/N 763512, which attaches the EMM cable to the network harness.

See your dealer for an installation manual or check out the Lowrance website for further information.
