    no spark

Hi guy, need some help, I went out to the lake this morning , i started the motor and i saw on by way to a honey hole i found the day before, but I didn't make it the motor started to jerk i look at my instrument panel and i notice that my tach pegged at 8K i know the motor was not turning that fast but i thought i'd mention it, but at that time the motor just died. i check the fuel bulb and it was tight, so i took off the cawling and checked for spark at the plug and there was none , there was fuel cus i could smell it. Any ideals where to start at? i'll start checking things this weekend , just wanna see if anyone has had this problem and could direct me to the faulty component or components, anything so that i can get back the the lake. Thanks GUYS, man i love this board thanks again

    Kill switch?????

You will need to start with the stator output and work your way through the ignition system.

It's probably gonna take a technician and some diagnostic time to troubleshoot your problem.
The tach issue could very well be a failed rectifier but that doesn't explain your engine jerking and dying or lack of spark.
Remove the upper motor cover. On the starboard (drivers side) there should be a black plastic cover that is held in place by small screws. Remove it and look for a terminal strip with yellow, yellow/blue, yellow/gray, red and gray wires. Make sure none of the wires are loose where the screws connect them @ the terminal strip. If you find any loose wires, take them off and inspect for arcing or a dirty connection. Inspect all the wiring inside the box to make sure no wires are chafed. Check your battery cables @ both ends and make sure you have tight locknuts and not loose wingnuts.
The emergency stop switch lanyard may have a rubber cover where it pushes on to the control box emergency switch. Make sure it is not worn by holding the switch plunger in by hand and then see if you have spark. If you don't find anything there you'll need a good Evinrude/Johnson certified tech.
