Buddy of mine turned me onto a product called alumanew. It's an aluminum acid, works wonderfully on wheels and I've cleaned up a few truck toolboxes. Spray it on and it foams up, rinse it off....

Put one on my 20xd last year. Not a hard job but definitely time consuming and I'd suggest having a buddy handy. Turned out great. Take your time and shouldn't be a bad job.
