I'm using the mega cheap $300 36v battery that supposedly sat around for a year or two and was sold at liquidation and it has been awesome.
Why wouldn't you use the extra charger if you already have it? That will be faster and more efficient.

Discharging them in parallel should be fine. Possible issue charging them in parallel if they do not have the same exact capacity. It would be worth a try to see if they both charge up to 100%.
