Not sure which is better in general……but I would position the bunks where Triton had them placed…..because their engineers designed & laid up the hull.
Use flat washers…..pressure treated lumber & lock washers are a poor combination. I tried silicone on my last set of bunks but ended up using a sima construction sealant when a couple lag bolts...
Gold series hubs have the tapped oil fill hole….vault hubs are the same hub w/out that hole.
Gold series bearing covers with the amber sight glass/ piston are identical to the vault bearing covers...
