NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th.
It looks like Pickwick has been selected, by the slimmest of margins, as our tournament lake for the month of August, which will be on the 16th.
We'll plan on launching out of McFarland Park if that's okay with everyone. Registration will begin at 4:45 with "ease off" at first light, which should be around 5:30. We've elected to conduct our weigh-ins earlier than normal for the past several tournaments because of the weather. If no one has any objections, I'd really like to continue that trend for this month and have our weigh-in at 1:00.
The question has also been raised about which ramp to launch out of. We'll plan on launching at the ramp on the north side of the harbor near the ball field. It'll take a little longer to idle out of the harbor but parking at the east ramp has been a real issue lately and launching solo from the west ramp can sometimes be a problem, too, especially if the water's down more than just an inch or two.
Confirmed Participants
1. Avery Faile & Katie Faile
2. David Scogin & John Scogin
3. Chris Fortney & Danny Howell
4. Andrew Inmon
5. Nathan Ezell & Steve Carey
6. Tommy Baker & Terry Burleson

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (AveryF)
I'll be there. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif 1:00 will be OK with me. 12:00 wouldn't hurt my feelings either. It's been brutal hot to me. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sweating.gif
-
I'm in, I'm going for 1pm, for me, this time of the year is hot, but I seem to catch my bigger fish from the 11-2pm time fame, if there's a full moon and there normally is this time of the month then the noon hour can be good, but hot :)
my thoughts, :)

Wish that was an option. I'll just fish and then weigh my fish at 12:00 and write my weight on the board before I leave. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

Any idea which tournament or how many boats are expected? I've seen some pretty big 200+ boat tournaments leave out of McFarland before so unless it's a pretty big tournament, we should still be okay.
-
Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (AveryF)
it's a club just north of here, but not sure on how many boats, shouldn't be a problem that i know of, but i will ask and find out how many boats they average.

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (TeamTar)
That's a lot of time in a boat alright. A few weeks ago between Thursday night at 6:00 pm and Saturday night at midnight (Sunday morning) I was in the boat over 30 hours.
6:00 pm to 10:30 pm Thursday night tourney on Pickwick.
5:15 am to 3:30 pm Friday on Wheeler practicing.
5:10 am to 3:00 pm Saturday FOM tourney on Wheeler.
6:00 pm to Midnight Saturday tourney on Wilson.
I was worthless by Sunday. I won't be doing that again any time soon. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif EricB was with me for all of them except the Thursday nighter on Pickwick. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

can't handle that many hours out there, (not with this heat anyway)

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (Terryfd42)
It was ROUGH let me tell you. But, I fished three tournaments on three lakes in three days and caught fish everywhere. It was a blast, but not something I want to do again any time soon.

The guys at Gray's Tackle keep pretty close tabs on the local tournament scene so I checked with them at lunch time today. They don't know of any other tournaments scheduled out of McFarland on the 16th but there may be another club tournament besides the one Terry mentioned that they don't have on their calender. Even if there is, though, it shouldn't be much of a problem. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Hey Avery you can add Nathan Ezell and Steve Carey we will be there. Yall don't laugh to hard if we come to weigh in with nothing. This will be my first time to fish at Pickwick. Maybe we will get lucky. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (TeamTar)
If nothing don't happen, I'm going up there tonight and fish below Wilson Dam, maybe catch a few stripes. I'm hoping to be able to stay thru the morning but don't know if I can make it that long. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (bonzter)
Ive spent a lot of time catfishing there and have caught a lot of cats and some stripe, but I think I have only caught 1 or 2 bass there over the years.

I hear you. I absolutely hated the lake until last year. I started spending more time down there and have really gotten to where I like it a lot now. I fish most Thursday nights down there.

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (1niceStratos)
today was the best day Ive had on Picwick, we caught fish everywhere we stoped even one huge stripe, Terry wore me out though with a few 3 lbrs or better, our best time was actually 1:30 to about 2:15,we had to quit to see if we make the run back to ramp in 45 minutes. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

We fished the Upper end and only caught a few dinks. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (bonzter)
If history is true with pickwick and me next time Im there I won't catch a thing. My dad used go up one day and come back with a cooler full of stripe and Id go with him the next day and not catch a thing. Hey I didnt know pickwick had grass or whatever it is like wheeler and guntersville. Terry I can go but I don't think can throw a hot pink worm dipped in chartruse, it just don't seem right. But if it catches the fish Ill work the net.

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (TeamTar)
Hot pink huh? The plaid colored helicopter lures seemed to work best for us. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (bonzter)
Allright! ya'll laugh at my pink worm, but you'll see, it works,

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (AveryF)
I usually fish with the southern guys when I can, but if you all will let me tag along, sign me up. Not sure about the partner yet. My brother-in-law may fish with me.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (AveryF)
Hey Guys I thought I had a partner but it didn't pan out. If I can find a ride with one of the ya'll I'll be there.

Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (Gitthenet)
Congrats on the good day. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif With a 45 minute run you're running at least down to Waterloo or further. That could get expensive. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sick.gif
And there is grass and a lot of it down there. It's getting better and better. I've only fished down that far a couple of times in the spring when the grass was just starting to grow. Is it actually on top now?
-
Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (1niceStratos)
I will watch the weather for-cast for sat., if its windy i probably would run that far.this past sat it was calm all day. According to the locals the big bass are not attached to the grass yet as they should but its getting better, 2 of our bigger ones came off grass, the rest was other stuff.
-
Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (TeamTar)
Hey Tommy!! SHHHHHHHH!!! Don't tell them where i used the worm at.
-
Re: NoAl Chapter sign up here to fish Pickwick on August 16th. (Gitthenet)
Sorry to have to do this guys but I'm gonna have to bail on this tourney. My boater didn't pan out and some other things have come up in the last day or two that is going to keep me from attending.

Maybe, I may have a ABA Tourney on the 14th not sure yet. Anyway I'll be looking to see the results from pickwick.
