ZX200 speed question??
I have a '08' ZX200 with the 200 series 1 motor. Not sure what prop but it came stock with the motor. Motor maybe has 7 hours. WOT psi is 24-25. Rpms at 5900. The gas tanks 3/4 full. Me at 175lbs. Gps max speed indicates I've hit 68.2 mph. Is that about right or should I expect a little more once the motor gets a few more hours on it. Sure would like to get to the lower 70's if possibe
Thanks

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (PSM207)
Which particular 200 hp engine is it (small block 2.6L or big block 3.3L)?

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (buckrub13)
That's pretty close on the speed. Once you get it broke in, and set up just right, you should see 70 to MAYBE 72 when running pretty light in cool water. But, usually run 67-69 under most conditions, especially later in the summer temps.
That's my experience anyway. Not bad for the size, and weight of the boat IMHO.
You probably have a Yamaha (vmax series) T1 prop, if it's a 3.3 liter HPDI engine.
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (looking4five)
This might sound stupid but how do you know if it is a 2.6 or a 3.3 liter? I asked for a 200 hp HPDI motor. Didn't know there were different 200 hp HPDI motors.
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (buckrub13)
I believe the 3.3 liter engines will have the 3.3 liter designation on the engine cowling. Is "VMax" also on your cowling?

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (PSM207)
I misread your original post. I first thought that you had the SX200, but now realize it is the ZX200. Sorry for my error.

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (buckrub13)
you have a 3.3liter, gps speeds 67-69 " average " like some others said, if you have one that hits 70mph GPS , in stock form, you have a fast one, NO HULL IS EXZACTLY THE SAME , therefore some of guys can hit 70-70.5 gps, with very light load, reserch old posts from past on the same boat

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (SKEETERBUG1)
Ok cool. I'm still getting used to the boat. It seems that if I'm at WOT and going straight or slightly turning left then it starts to chime walk. Slightly turning right it smooths out and speeds up. I guess I just need to play with the trim and get used to it. This is quite an upgrade from a Nitro Nx882 with a 150.

put more gas in tank on other side and lighten load on your side and it will help .at least it did mine

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (skeeter202)
71.1gps with about 40 gallons in cooler water at 5,950 and 2 inches below pad with the 25 T1... 69 most anytime... I can't seem to get a reply when I ask if anyone with a 200 HDPI-ZX200 has a 26 prop and specs are? One guy claims near 73 with a 27 TXP...hard to believe nobody in the last 3-4 years has run a 26 pitch with the Zx200-200HDPI.

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (reelman)
id love to try a 26" prop in a tempest, but the way gas costs are now im not worried about hittin magical 70+ mph, to justifiy buyin another new prop ,i only go full throttle when in tournments, when im racin against the "clock"... i too have interest in how performance does on their 19.5 fter skeeter, with a 26" prop, seems like 27" prop would be too much unless have done some mods to engine

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (SKEETERBUG1)
One of the guys on here with a ZX200 & 3.3 HPDI tried a 26TXP prop on his boat. We talked back & forth about it a good while back. He said it was a little too much prop for the 200, and he had the best results running the 25TXP on his boat. I was curious about it too. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (looking4five)
I hear you...am also 4k rpms after blastoff and run-to-weigh... I may win the lotto and re-pitch the 25T1 to a 26... or maybe not... in theory if the 25 is right at 6k the 26 should be at 5,800 and raise engine a bit to get near 6k again... thought somebody had "been there, done that" but guess not...

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (buckrub13)
I've run 70.6 gps with 3/4 gas, full gear, and wifey on a not so good day. Had a stiff cross wind and more than slight chop.
Have seen 71.5 by myself on a similar day and all but the wifey in the boat. Hoping to get a good run in this year to test it out since being repowered last year. Didn't get a chance to test it out last summer to see what it will really do.
Running a 25 TXP by Mark, at about 3/4" below pad. Need to run higher yet to see for sure. Last year was just too busy on the lakes to run hard, and maybe with the price of gas it will be a little quieter this year. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif
With the stock prop we saw 69.1 with both of us, full gear, and a little over 1/2 fuel.

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (CGWright)
Sounds good but 3/4 inch below pad? I measured, leveled (used level on both engine & over rear trailer tire past it on step) and re-measured to be sure my engine was 2 inches below (rigged stock that way)... man, 3/4 inch below is way up there...how many rpms and psi? Also, how much trim is the sweet spot? 1/2? 2/3? 3/4 up on the gauge?

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (reelman)
reelman, I'm the one that tried the 27 txp on a zx200. I did get 73, but only at 5400 rpm with an extremely light load. And that was this winter in 42* water, so the motor was running as strong as it ever would. That was just too much prop for this rig. I know as soon as it started to warm up, I would never be able to turn it with a load in the boat. I'm curious about a 26 TXP as well.
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (buckrub13)
I have a zx 195c witch is the same boat and it is a 99 model. I run mine at 2.5 below pad and I saw 70.5 wot. all this is 1/2 gas me by myself and full turny load. you should see somewere around the same ones you get everything tweeked just right. I also know a guy with the same year boat who said he sees 74 gps.

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (reelman)
i had my jack plate way up too, when i put TXP prop on just to see how much i could get, i hit 69.9 gps, NO fishin equipment, aprrox 25-30gal of gas, and she wanted to chime walk just a little, could tell she wanted to run a little faster, water temp was at that time approx 50 deg, water pressure was at 15 @ wot throttle, maxed out around 5950 rpms, but noticed when i put water in live well (8lbs per gal) she wanted to blow prop out at take off, an tried comin back down 1/4 inch at time to to remedy that issue, as soon as i added fishin tackle in, it got slower, its funny , my old ZX225 , weight didnt effect it as near as much as this one i have now, it actually ran a little better with heavy loads, especially in rough water
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (SKEETERBUG1)
ZX200 seems sensitive to weight distribution...
I put spare prop on pass. side and even try to balance fuel tank filling by filling pass. side more... If I was King all tests would be standard, fill livewells and add 4 gym wts of 25 pounds each to compartments (1 each)...and 25 gallons of gas...that would seem to reflect reality. Also test when water is about 75 degrees... The relationship between how much trim on the gauge and engine height is never talked about either. Maybe its all part of the game to have to mess with a half dozen interrelated variables for months to come close to optimum performance.
Notice there is no Performance category for Skeeter-Yamaha guys on any website to hash this out better for each hull-engine-prop-height-rpms-trim level-psi-load situation..

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (reelman)
yep, you man put it in perspective, every hull comes off the manufactor line in all brands of boats are slightly different, if you get lucky you snatched up one thats a little faster than the "average"....but man sometimes a little is alot! my old boat (zx225) for whatever reason ran a couple mph faster (gps) than other in the the same class, everyone that rode in it or drove it swore that they thought the boat was gonna flip over backwards it was on the pad so good, some friends that were clamin they were gettin faster than me fell short when it came time to play, hell mine wasnt even what you would call fast, id get dusted by bullets, strokers , those of that kind, but for a heavy lead sled, comfortable rough water ride with fishermans luxuries that skeeter has , i thought that 75 .6 mph gps on my old boat was pretty fast for what it was, guess i had one of those select few that could muster couple more mph than the average...it had a 27 T-1 on it , an probally had around 100hrs on that ole 3.1 ox66, maybe it was like some of my ole hotrods drag racin, they always seem to run the fastest when they were about to blow

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (buckrub13)
Hey buckrub,
i ahve a 2008 ZX200 set up identical and i am running anywhere from 66mph to right at 69.5. Depeding on how I am loaded down and what the temp is.

Yes, 3/4 below. With the low water pickup it's possible, and I still had prox. 25 psi. RPM's were 5900 ish depending on trim. I was running over 95%. I'd gotten info from somebody on the boards and was duplicating that.
Yes, with a mechanical plate I was blowing out something terrible. Now I've got a hydro and want to test it more, just haven't been on the water at the right time.
A couple on here have seen 72+ running above pad with the 3.3L HPDI's and TXP's.
I don't have the plate split details from my trials last year, but can check if you IM me next week. Right now I"m at the IN/KY rally and don't have the info. Sorry.

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (CGWright)
is the hydro you got ...a hdro foil to go on motor or HYDROTECH ?.. thats how high i put my jack plate at one time due to so many reports sayin TXP likes to go higher, and it does , but i couldnt keep my from blowin prop (prop slip, cativation) ironically when i added weight, when the boat was empty with no tackle it didnt do it , adjusted down 1/4nch at a time , the trim i was runnin was 3/4 trim and more, she seemed to wantin to go faster, an wanted to chime just a little bit, ...if you bought a hydro foil im interested to see if it helped as so many people dont recommend it on larger motors

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (SKEETERBUG1)
craig is meaning hydraulic jackplate. thats whats his hydro meant. when i had my zx225, the hydro made all the difference in the world. you would be suprised to see how for you can run your prop up on a skeeter. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

You're right. Sorry, I was tired...no exhausted when I posted. Re: ZX200 speed question?? (CGWright)
I have a 07 zx200 with a 200 hpdi and ran a 27 t1 yesterday. Seemed to be to much prop. Been having rpm problems with them being 6100 with 2 people. I am set at 1 1/2 below pad and running 68.6 with two people. I live about an hour from powertech and going to go pick up a 26 this morning and try it. With a 25 t1 I run the same speed with two people as I do by myself so a 26 should help.
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (RedRiver)
RPM thing is pitch and engine height thing. Was very curious as regards the 26 pitch with this rig using different 26s (same load, fuel and water temp range of course). I don't think 74 is possible though... no matter what... but 2mph would be a nice bump.
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (reelman)
I made some calls to some people that are supposed to specialize in Skeeter boats and they all told me the same thing. TXP 26. Said they didn't even put the Yamaha props on their boats because a 25 was to little and 27 was to much. They told me that the Turbo TXP 26 was the the best they had found so far.
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (RedRiver)
10-4, makes sense to me...thanks...now to find or win enough $$$ to trade my Yammy regular 25 spare for that prop...maybe by the fall... I love to run up on the 225s...
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (reelman)
I called Precision Props or Turbo and talked to them and a 26 should put me on the money. I ordered the prop about an hour ago and he said it would go out today. Should have numbers soon and will post results. I paid 450 for prop and hub kit plus shipping so if that is a good price I'll put his name and number on here for yall.
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (RedRiver)
Oh by the way reelman, I ordered it fom Alexadria. Not to far from you.
-
Re: ZX200 speed question?? (RedRiver)
Got my spare Yammy 25M for sale on my Forum..$225... if that moves, I can get the Turbo... there is a super deal on BBC for the 26 also.

Re: ZX200 speed question?? (reelman)
Nice boat you got there, I really like the color scheme. I have spent countless hours tweaking my boat / props. I run a hydro plate, so I can take advantage of the TXP's which like to run high. You need to try one out, it's the best prop I have ever run, and I've ran them all. The T1 is a close second. Your boat may be different, but I think you will see a good improvement. Unless you get a hydro plate, I recommend the 25P, as the 26P is a little too much prop w/ a fixed plate and a load, especially in summer temps. I run it in the winter. The 25P will still turn sufficient rpms at a lower setting. You can keep raising your plate, but blowout will become a problem at break-over if you go too high. Problem is you cannot get the TXP to perform at it's best w/ a fixed plate, as you can't get it high enough. I run mine 3/4 above the pad.
You are kind stuck at one setting w/ a fixed plate, and it won't be the best, but you should still see 70 mph if you have the boat loaded right, thus reducing or eliminating your chine walk. You also need more seat time to get used to how it handles. Good luck, keep us posted.
