Would Have A New Skeeter But ?
Was looking to get a Sx170 but the price and warranty were a shock.... Told one thing and shown another... One day theres a warranty the next there isnt... I realize a dealer needs to make some money but I would think there should be some flexibility... Maybe I am not getting ripped off, and the dealer has the choice of staying put with his price, but i dont think 11,900 is a solid price for 02 sx170... My opinion though, I'll find a good one...

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer is Trying to Rip Me off (Verndacks)
Look around. If your not happy about EVERYTHING, then dont buy it. there are many other boats out there in that price range.
Here is a starting point on boat dealers in New york.
Give them a call.

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer is Trying to Rip Me off (87demonpro)
Defintely not buying there, guess that was a sign telling me not to buy anything smaller than 17 foot. Too bad I was willing to pay without finance. I have been seeing some SX180's under 12,000 that are 2003's.... Guess its worth the couple extra dollars for more size and better stability down the road... I just feel almost 12,000 for a 2002 16 foot boat in good condition is way too high... I can get a 2008 for not much more... O well better off to keep looking... Thanks guys

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer is Trying to Rip Me off (Verndacks)
I just got back from working a boat show this weekend. An '08 SX170 w/ 50hp goes for about $15,000.00. The length of the new motor warranty and piece of mind with the new boat alone is worth the extra money from the boat in question.

If you are set on a used boat, keep looking. You can find a better deal.

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer is Trying to Rip Me off (Neilslure)
That sounds high priced to me when a dealer near me has 2 brand new SX170 2007's for $14999 and $15999 with 90 hp motors and a 2007 SX180 with a 115 for $15999.

Keep looking....There are alot better deals out there than that.

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer is Trying to Rip Me off (Verndacks)
So because the dealer has a boat he does not want to sell below $11,900, that's ripping you off. That's kind of harsh, as dealers we take a lot of risk buying used boats on trade-in and that risk has to pay off in the end with a little profit. Now if they were $5,000 above NADA yes, but he's right on par with where that boat should sell for.

I really think that the buyers are more at risk with buying a used boat than a dealer with only a 30 day warranty that isn't much risk to a dealer if he's ckecked the used boat out and found no major problems.

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer is Trying to Rip Me off (Matt Plapp)
I don't sell boats, but I would agree w/ Matt... That is what they believe it is worth, all things considered... I don't think they are trying to rip anyone off. Tacking on fees, false advertisement, etcÂ
would be ripping you off.. You have the right to accept the price or move on.. Just my thoughts..
That being said, 11,900 is bit more than i would pay, but that is not the boat i am looking for either.

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer ... (hunting2much)
If you were buying from a private owner you would ge no warranty at all.....
-
Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer ... (Olddawg)
Exactly and you would get no mechanic's check out. So I'm really confused how buying a used boat from a dealer with 30 days of warranty, the option of purchasing an extended warranty and a boat that was checked out by a mechanic is bad. YOu get none of those on a For Sale By Owner.

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer ... (Matt Plapp)
With todays market, that price is on the high side for that boat. If the dealer can't make a profit at average NADA retail, he's paying too much in trade. Either he's a great guy, giving maximum value on trade in, whch makes it harder to sell a used boat, or he's trying to max out his profit, by charging top dollar. I'm no business man, but I can't see how dealers make money on used boats, let alone break even.

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Dealer is Trying to Rip Me off (Verndacks)
I would laugh at the guy and tell him he could keep it. I definatly consider that a rip off. You can buy a much nicer boat than that for 10,000. Heck I only paid 16,900 for a 99 zx210c with a 225 last year. My boat sells new for upward of 40,000 and that boat wouldn't sell for even close to 20,000 keep looking

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Deal ... (footbalplayer57)
OK, everyone needs to understand 1 easy thing, the NADA is a "Guide", jus like a fishing guide he may say fish are in that hole, sometimes he's right and sometimes he's wrong.
NADA is the same thing. A boat could say $10,000, but like everything else there is a margin for error, so $11,000 may be right, maybe $9,000. But the whole point is its a guide. Heck that dealer could be going by NADA, Kelly Blue Book, ABOS or about 10 other sources.
If any of you saw the show "The Office" when Micheal drove his car in a lake because the GPS said turn left, I guess he should have not listened to his guide that time. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Deal ... (Matt Plapp)
I don't think he's trying to rip you off, he wants what he wants and it's your choice not to pay it. That being said I just bought an new SX170 with a 90hp and a few options for just over $14k IMO spend the extra $2500 and get a leftover.

Re: Would Have A New Skeeter But The Deal ... (tryn2lrn)
Maybe it was a bad choice of words, i think both parties take alot of risk... Never know what your gonna get, either party, sure a dealer doesnt want a boat coming back its just more money to fix it. Both parties take risk. I will find a better deal
