Which ones faster??
I have had the luxury of having the fastest boat in my club, but things might be changing. I found out today that a buddy of mine that fishes my club bought a 2006 202/250 Pro XS, 15" plate 27 Trophy combo. How will it run compared to my 2007 202/250 HPDI , 15" plate 28 TXP? I am not familiar with the newer Merc. 250 but I know the older Merc. 250 ran as good as they sounded, and they sounded badddddd!! Is it time to make the call to Hydro-Tec? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

Re: Which ones faster?? (tnmark)
It depends, what lower unit, gears, does he have? Call Hydro Tec anyway, and then it won't matter. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

Ya I'd love to have the phase 2 kit who will warranty it...? my 250 hpdi still has 3 years left... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif

Re: Which ones faster?? (Fear-This)
I know yamaha warenteed a 300 HPDI not to long ago that was decked out. Most of hydrotecs hop ups don't affect reliabilty. Talk to Smoke about it.
Mercs are a little faster than yamy's stock if set up right, But a lttle cash to hydrotec would turn that around quickly. And there's not much you can do to a merc YET.

Re: Which ones faster?? (BEEZER)
Ya but I heard the Dealer cut the Deal it showed up at Collins and left to some club member then some other Dealer dealt with yami and the issue with the power head. I don't think yami new about the phase 2 kit. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif this was from someone that new the owner and he was friends with a cool dealer ship. But you know how BS travels take it with a grain of salt http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif It still was one bad 210 after SMOKE got done with it. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif If I new a dealer that would warranty I would do it.

Mark, the biggest difference in speed will come if the Merc has a Sporty lower unit.

So, we will run the same if he has the torque master or I will be playing catch-up if he has the sport master?

Re: Which ones faster?? (tnmark)
It depends alot on set up

Re: Which ones faster?? (tnmark)
This is my take on this. They are both big block motors with 1.75 gears (I'm assuming on the gears w/h the MERC); it's gonna be close. Maybe close enough that a prop or the driver may tip the scale to the faster side. But I do believe a MERC will develop more power at the higher RPM levels and that may give the MERC an advantage with the top end. But if you two want to know which is faster don't play no games. Fill the gas tanks and keep your fishing load and race. It doesnÂt have NOTHIN to do with fishing. Some people don't understand that, and it's usually not a Blazer/Bullet/Allison/ Stroker owner, we all know the deal. LineÂem up.http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Which ones faster?? (Basswipe)
The Blazer in question does have a TM lower unit. It is a sweet boat and in perfect condition. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

As to warranty on a Yamaha with the Phase II kit, talk to the dealer you're going to buy the kit from whenever you're serious about getting one. You need to work that out with them. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

Re: Which ones faster?? (1niceStratos)
We do the HT kits everyday.....have had a powerhead failure or two but never had a problem with yammy warranty.
It is truly up to the dealer who handles the claim tho. If a dealer wanted to throw you under the bus, he could.

Re: Which ones faster?? (Vyper202)
My buddy brought her home today!! Meeting him at the lake tomorrow to run it. Should have some answers to the Mercury 250 v/s Yamaha 250. I am going to make sure he has about 75 pounds extra in his boat to make up for the single console, mine is dual. We can't have the Merc. with an advantage. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif It really is not that big of a deal which is faster, I am just happy for him. He has got a beautiful boat. I bet he doesn't sleep much tonight. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif

Re: Which ones faster?? (tnmark)
I have a 2001 dual console 202 with a 2004 250 xs. With 1:75 gears in my torquemaster gearcase with 14 inches of setback . My gps just touches 80 with a 27 trophy with tourney load and 2 guys. I hit the rev limiter alone with a light load at 82 mph with the 27 trophy. The 06 250 xs has a higher rev limiter which might allow it to get more when light but will not be any faster loaded. I would say that if your boat will get 80 or better loaded you will be as fast as him ; if not you will need to give Hydrotec a call. I have a Hydromotive Quad 4-x 29 that I think will help me but all my local lakes are well frozen. --- mike http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif

Re: Which ones faster?? (canadablazer)
We ran em today and just as a lot of us suspected they run very similar. My boat is actually a couple of mph faster on the top but he is faster in the 30-60mph range. I am sure this has to do with how they are propped as much as anything. Another one of my buddys was there with his stroker/225 combo trying props. I let him run my 28 TXP and he sad after trying 7 different props he has found what he wants. He loved it! His motor has a low rev limiter, 5800 I think , and he has had a hard time finding a prop that would come out of the hole and run good on top. I had to twist his arm to get him to try the TXP he thought he would be all over the rev limiter, after he ran it he swears its 29 or 30 pitch.

Re: Which ones faster?? (tnmark)
More converts. TXPs are the way to go on a Blazer. Tell them to call my buddy Greg. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
-
Re: Which ones faster?? (tnmark)
It is closer to a 29 or 30...that is because the pitch is measured in a different area of the blade and the progression is a little different on these props.

Re: Which ones faster?? (Rebel1)
What were the top speeds of these two rigs and the stroker? I wonder if you let the single console 202 with the 250 xs try your 28 TXP what kind of speeds would he get. ---mike http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif

We talked about putting the 28TXP on the 202/250Pro XS to see what it would run but the new owner did not want to mess with it. You know how it is when you get a new boat. If the 202/250 Pro XS will run within 2.1mph of mine turning a 28 Trophy it could very easily be faster than mine running the TXP. After some of the "new" wears off his boat we will talk him into letting us swap some props and mess with the jackplate. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
I forgot the top speeds. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
My boat 2007 202DC/250HPDI 28TXP ran a best of 82.3 gps.
My buddy's 2006 202SC/250 Pro XS 28 Trophy (prop has been worked) best of 80.2 gps.
The Stroker/225 older optimax?? 28TXP ran 81.6 gps but it was getting rough when he ran it and it will run much faster in better conditions.
Although the numbers don't show it the Stroker is the faster of the three. I was lucky enough to have the fastest prop on my boat when I showed up at the lake so I ran first when the water was best. The 202/250 Pro XS is at the limit of what it will run because of prop. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif

Re: Which ones faster?? (tnmark)
Are the newer Blazers that much slower than earlier models. I've set up two 202/250XS down here. One a 2002 and the other 2003. Both of them ran 85+ with little setup time.

Re: Which ones faster?? (Fear-This)
Will, to be fair this is not a good Yamaha v/s Mercury comparison. The boats are set-up totally different. 4 blade for hole shot and handling on the Merc. and tall 3 blade on the Yamaha that runs pretty decent top end numbers. The previous owner of the Merc. equip Blazer said he has seen 85 with a different prop but the hole shot was terrible. The biggest problem I see with the Merc. is it doesn't seem to have enough torque to spin the taller props. Once you get the boat lifted it will run some big numbers but you have to give up to much on hole shot. I have not seen any horse power graphs on the Merc. but I just about bet you that below 4500 rpm the Yamaha makes more power. With that said, running super light with a tall prop, the Merc. will probably walk off from the Yamaha. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
