P-Line CXX ... opinions?
OK ... I'm an old guy and habits are hard to change. I used Trilene XT for many, many years and it did a wonderful job for me. Of course, anything that WORKS usually DISAPPEARS from existence, and some years ago Berkley stopped making XT in blue fluorescent. Also this yellow or solar colored line just doesn't do anything for me. And for night fishing, I need a fluorescent line. I've just about decided that P-Line CXX will fit my needs and seems comparable to the old XT in abrasion resistance and castability.
What are you guys opinions on the CXX ?

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
It's OK, but I can tell you the CX fluoro coated stuff is the worst line ever made.
You can look at that line and it will break. After that bad experiment, I tend to stay away from their other lines.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
What type of rod / reel combo? I use the CX for spinning and I wouldn't dream of using anything else. I fish 99.9% with spinning gear so the small diameter is perfect for me.

The Big Game is ... "OK", but a little too wiry for my tastes.

I can't help you on the casting rods but for the spinning I'd go with the CXX. Smaller diameter and more limpness in the line. You can cast a 1/4 oz jig or grub a mile with that set up. I prefer 7ft rods with 6lb line in the summer for smallmouth fishing but then the vast majority of my fishing involves open water.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
The CXX is really good....I have used it for a long time. Izorline is a little better I think. If you wanna flouro coated line....check out YoZuri Hybrid. P-Line is a good line....all except that Floroclear...the spools I bought yrs ago...all of em was total junk...and did not like the Evolution either.
-
Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
I spooled a spinning reel up with 8# CXX last year and used it for dropshotting. No complaints from me.
-
Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
If I'm not throwing braid or invizx, I'm throwing CXX. I didn't think CX was flourocarbon coated, I thought it was just a softer, limper mono (like comparing trilene xl and xt) . Flouroclear is p-line's floro coated mono as far as I know.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
IMO, P-Line rates their lines strength a little deceivingly.
For instance, their 15lb test rated line may be comparable to another company's 17 or 20lb test lines. Match up diameter for diameter for an accurate comparison.
If I'm not mistaken, the only standard for lb test rating is IGFA, which you'll rarely see manufactures touting this. it's way too easy for a marketing department to advertise strength when there's no baseline.
So to answer your question, I've used CXX one time and didn't like it. I recall it being stiff, lots of memory and thick line for its rated strength. Not to be so negative, I do like their Halo and 100% FC line.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
P-line CXX=tough as well rope. P-line flourocarbon=as good as Seagar (both are the best)

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
Love the stuff. Tuff as nails.

Only mono I use. Great line.

The only line I have ever actually respooled and returned to the store for my money back. No redeeming qualities.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Pantera61)
i love pline cxx and its all i use in heavy like say 15lb or more but i don't care for any of the other types of line they make. i all ways used 17lb in a lot of my lighter jig rods when i started using pline cxx i dropped down to 15 because it is still stronger than a lot of 17 i have used

I hear ya about having your favorite stuff become obsolete. Story of my life.
I also use XT. but not the flourescent. I use the green color for 6, 8, and 10 lb test. The 8 is the strongest brand Ive ever used. The Pline CXX I use in 4 and 6 lb test. I havent found a better line yet in either size. The 6 is my primary sized line for 70 percent of my fishing which is in open water. I use the copper? colored and the clear Pline CXX. I havent tried the flourescent. I gave up night fishing a few years back.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (mattmann7)
The CXX is great on casting gear, but I've never liked it on spinning gear. I use Fluroclear on my spinning gear. If I'm not using fluro or braid, I use CXX on all my casting gear and Fluroclear on my spinning.
Edit: Like someone mentioned, their ratings seem to be a little off. If you normally use 12 lb triline, go with 10 lb CXX. It will still probably be stronger than the trilene, but will closer in diameter to that line.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Allsup)
Steve...all i use is P-line and Trilene XT. NEVER have a problem with breakoffs, and i don't change my line but once a year.
-
Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Bob20)
CXX is too stiff and wiry for my likes. I use almost nothing but CX-Premium. It is a co-polymer with a fluorocarbon coating. In my opinion it is the the best compromise between fluorocarbon and mono. I have never had a break off or any other problem with it.
I can't say for night fishing but the clear CX-Premium does light up pretty good in daylight.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Bob20)
If that's the stuff that comes in the silver box...can't remember which one it is the premium stuff I e tried it but it didn't perform well at all for me. The P-line xxtra tough is what I use...not sure I'd want it on a spinning outfit though....holds too much memory...but I can pull a 20 foot bee up current with that stuff on a snag with 15 lb line...

I like CXX. Best line out there IMO. I keep trying other stuff and always come back to CXX or original stren. You might want to try Original Stren in clear/blue florescent. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Matt, unless they've changed Stren, it used to stretch like a rubber band ..... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
Only line i use except when sight fishing then i go with Berkley 100%.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
Yea it does stretch pretty bad. I use CXX for everything except crankbaits.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (haftafish22)
Where can you buy Berkley Big Game in blue flourescent, I haven't been able to find it in a couple of years. I have been using the cxx florescent at night and like it.

Unless they've re-introduced it, Big Game is no longer available in Clear Blue Fluorescent ...... hence part of my dilemma. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Ok guys ...... you've SOLD me on the CXX. I've only tried it in 8#, but I liked it.
I just ordered 6000 yards of it in 4 different tests .... it's time to start getting serious with our water temps on the rise .... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (bigfishingstud)
ill second the really sux! cxx was all i used to use . the 8lb could straighten out a 4/0hook. i lived with the coiling and the twist for a while but couldnt put up with the breakage due to brittleness.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (eriedude)
The only line I use at night CXX P-Line clear fluorescent in 20lb.
Same here, tried others, always http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif and go back.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (Hair Jig)
P-Line CXX has a lot of memory in my opinion. Their CX Premium is more to my liking. The FluoroClear is tough and lays on the reel pretty well also, but not as limp as the CX. P-line fluorocarbon is good line in my opinion. I don't believe the fluorocarbon or FluoroClear is available in blue fluorescent, but I think the CX definitely is and is a limp line made more for light spinning like you might want for a hair jig.
Like someone else said, CX is more like Trilene XL and CXX is more like XT, and Big Game I believe is only made now in clear or green or maybe even solar, but not blue fluorescent.

I fished XT for years, and it was a little hard to handle but the strength was worth it. This seems as close to XT as there is out there right now.

It lights up at night under the blacklights.

Re: P-Line CXX ... opinions? (smalljawguy)
I have used the P-Line CX 15lb without any problems. I had some of the CXX and it was to stiff for me. A buddy told me about a line he had been using that was pretty cheap but a good mono. Its Suffix Superior. I have used it for traps the last two tournaments. In the first tournaemnt I caught 2 drum on the trap that weighed in the 25 lb range and it performed fine. I am going to spool up a spinning rod with it and see how it performs on there. I never had good luck putting the P-Line on a spinning rod it always seemed to coil up no matter how I layed the sppol. I tried flipping it over and making the line come off the same way the reeel turned but it didn't matter still got twisted up.
