Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (tate186)
Believe 5600 was max on a carbed 150. I found 4600 was a good cruise with that engine on my old 181 champ.

Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (Skeeter ZX-190)
i was told 6000 rpm's by several people, i run mine from 5800-5900
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (brianranger188vx)
hi al..I think the book says 5600rpms...I run around 5800rpm with a 24" Temptest.

Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (tate186)
6100 to 6150 should be the rev limiter. Should be propped for 5800 to 6100 rpm from what I have gathered from the experts on the different forums.
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (Wedawee)
a yamaha rep said while the manual says 5600 the motor runs best 5800-6000. more power and fuel efficiency.... i don't know how. but hey, that's his job and he does the performance reviews and tries (or tried now they are gone) to run those as close to 6k as he could.

Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (DerekL)
I have a 2004 150 and I am running 5,000rpm at 53mph on a Skeeter SX190. Is it difficult to adjust to get more RPM?
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (bradg4780)
add a jackplate and or raise the motor up to gain rpm's

What pitch prop?
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (tate186)
Prop it to 58-5900 RPMs. I think the max is 6150.
I run my OX66 Yamaha at 5900 any time I'm running WOT. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

He did mentioned that the dealer adjusted the idle but did it by the hot foot. I think that might be his problem but not sure.
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (fishin couillon)
Found the issue. I had the engine serviced last fall and hadn't had it out. I went and removed the cowl to adjust the throttle stop and noticed that my lower spark plug wire was dis-connected. I have no idea why the dealer would do this. Connected the wire and ran it. I was at 5,550 RPM at 57.1 mph. I am 6-1 235lbs and my partner is 6-6 265 and tank was 7/8 full. I am hoping by myself I can run 60 WOT. I am going to adjust the throttle stop a little more and get 5,800 RPM.
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (bradg4780)
How do you adjust the throttle on the engine? I had a hot foot put on my boat. It never gets more than 5500 rpms wide open.
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (fishin couillon)
I'm turning a 23-m @5800 60mph. It like to drink gas at all rpms though

They probably got side track during the service and forgot to put the wire back on. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif Glad you got it back up and running.
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (fishin couillon)
My rpms with the pedal to the floor was 52-5300.
Just raised the motor 1/4 inch tonight and am going to test it in a day or two. I'm told a 1/4 inch will make a difference, but any idea what I should be expecting? I want to get it to run at 58-59 wide open if I can maintain water pressure.
23M prop, Which should be fine. I currently have little to no rooster tail to speak of at wide open, so I know it wasn't set up right when I got it.

Keep raising it until you lose mph and or your water press gets too low
Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (Skeeter ZX-190)
After measuring to the pad, and to the shaft and subtracting, I was running 5" below pad. I raised an inch last night and will be testing today.

raise it another half inch

Re: RPMS on 150 VMAX (ChrisH)
raised another 1/2 inch. Really didn't gain anything. If I trim it all the way up I don't even think the boat is touching the water honestly and I can feel the sides of the pad smacking the water because it gets squirly. Still getting 58-59mpg maybe 5500rpms. still maintaining 15-18psi.
I think I'm going to have to move down from a 23 to a 22-21.
Just changed the plugs last night also. none of the original plugs looked very dirty.
Any idea? As you can see below, I really have nowhere to go.
