they will be there for the spawn, but they aren't going to hang out like they have the past few years.. they killed all the grass, so when they move out after spawning, they aren't going to hang out in the Cat.
Going to be interesting this year http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
They damn sure aint going to spawn under the porch.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

ya think?? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif
He released them in his pond. The rest where released in the tank pond. He only keep the two big ones.
Atleast they went back in some pond http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
I know at least 15 guys with ponds, and they all take the big bass out the Cat and put in their ponds. Perfectly legal, put just one of many reasons why we will never have 14 and 15 lb. bass like the California Delta.
He isn't a meat eater... unless they smaller ones. My buddy has a big pond in his front yard they let kids fish in and place them in it. They don't keep any fish just take pictures and have a good time. There is like 4 over 8 pounds in it.

More like we will never have them due to the meat eaters who keep over 10 every time. Or eat the ones over 3 pounds every time they catch them. Can't blame people who stock a pond over the ones who fill the cooler. Any thing over 3 pounds should be released.
Yesterday while fishing in the segnette area I was idling down a camp canal and seen 3 fish over 3 lbs on the chopping block getting ready to be cleaned. makes no sense esp when you could have caught all the 12 inch fish you wanted yesterday..

exactly..... plus, the redfish were biting yesterday as well. I threw every bass back, even the small ones, and just kept 5 nice redfish!
I can't bring any more bass home anyways, as I already have my legal limit of 20 bass in my freezer.
If everybody was like me, Bump and Gun there would be 30lbers out there. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

Why did you have to post that on LA Sportsman?
Oh boy here we go again.

Why not they where some nice fish. Its not like the bass masters never keep it hush hush. Its a fishing forum post reports right. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

You feel this way but yet you go on every fishing site there is and post pics of someone elses fish and tell everyone that the big fish are moving into the tank ponds? Something bout that just dont seem right.
It's a lost cause http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif
so... help me understand... how is the cat/tank ponds a secret?? y'all kinda ganging up on that guy....how many guys hammered them on national tv last year in the same spot?? like 8 or more....
It was a secret until I took kvd there and showed him around http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
Its not a secret I think the point is that as soon as the info fisherman hear of a few good fish being caught in that area they go hook up to their dusty boats and the next thing you know you have 100 boats in the tank pond which is a small area to begin with and half of them are keeping spawning fish from 3 to 9 lbs which makes no sense at all.
Good thing there is a Bay Wallace East,West,North and South..

+100000 it's one thing to go out there and bust the fish up.. it's another one to post about a location that is as "well defined" as the Tank Ponds.. it's not like he said "I hammered em in the Basin" that leaves alot of interpretation... but once someone posts about the Tank Ponds, it's almost a given that the place is going to get hid hard over the next month or two, becaues like Dean said... guys that use their boats once a year are going to go because the area is so small.
and no, I don't care if someone keeps a few fish to eat... as long as it's within the law (10 daily limit, and no more than twice the daily limit in the freezer), and not a spawning fish.. But what you are going to have is every guy with an ice chest coming out of there with 30 per person...
if LDWF were smart, they would have a game warden stationed at Pier 90 and at Bayou Segnette for the next two months, checking every livewell and ice chest as people are picking their boats up.
I wonder if this one is still in the Cat or in somebody's pond?

That is a stud.. hopefully it is still in the Cat, and not in a landfill somewhere with two big chunks missing out of it.
I'd give a 1000.0 bucks to really know how many times that fish got caught again and where it's at now.

AND drop the limit to 5, IMHO.

I think for landlocked lakes such as Concordia, St. John, etc.. I think that is a great idea...
But for areas like the delta and the basin, 10 is a good number <u>IF</u> you enforce the laws that exist... but you got TONS of guys that launch from Pier 90 and fill up ice chests.
At least once a year, someone gets caught over the limit in the Cat, and then you never hear about it again until the following year... just think about this.. for every 1 that gets caught, there are about 30 that don't get caught.
I even had an old timer argue with me one time that there was not a limit on his fish. He said that what he had was green trout and there was not limit on them. I had to get 3 other people involved to convince this guy that a green trout was a bass.
And I know we have gone round and round about this one before but alot of people don't realize that you can only have 20 bass in the freezer for every license holder in the home.
You should have seen the locals where I was yesterday. One guy told me that he had caught 45 the day before and none had eggs. Do you think he was talking about the ten that he kept? lmao

So... for arguements' sake - a family of 5 (hypothetically: let's say 2 adults, 3 children - all of whom have lifetime licenses) can have up to 100 bass, 200 filets, in the freezer?
Just curious if that's a possible loophole for that portion of the law. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/stirthepot.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif
fwiw...i seem to distinctly remember this same paranoia on this board before...that place will survive...look how many huge fish got caught in the classic....do you think all those fish got returned to the cat?? i highly doubt it... this is a neverending debate...i see it here, i see it on lasportsman...
yall will never stop the meat fishermen...hell me and my stepdad kept 15 yesterday out of about 30 that we caught, so i guess im a meat fisherman...but you know what?? i didnt break any laws...
another thing...its ok to go to the cat and catch 5 hawgs DURING THE SPAWN and trailer them to cabelas or wherever to pick up a 1500 dollar check??
and on i final note...i dont even fish there...never even been there...
i agree with the opposition to the outlawing...if there are people keeping more than their limit, they need to be punished...

Well I dont argue much anymore about releasing big females, but your point about trailoring the spawners is kinda stupid. I would say at least 95% of tournament fish survive the tournament journey. I would even say most still spawn the same season. But even if none of them were able to successfully spawn that season, at least they are alive and have a damn good chance to spawn the next year. A big female in the freezer has a 0% chance of ever spawning again.
And yes, The cat will survive. But it will NEVER be what it could potentially be.
<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by hookem175 »</td></tr><tr><td class="quote">

i agree with yall mostly...there are some bad seeds in louisiana when it comes to bass...i cant disagree with that...im just trying to argue both sides i guess...
ill take back my comment about the trailering...youre right, they do survive...(i meant more along the lines of them being released just whereever and not being returned to the cat)...
i guess the only reason im even in this is.....you gotta see it from both sides, or you just gotta simply see it from where im lookinh at it....youre making an argument on this forum that wont change one thing at all....
im not commenting anymore on this...
i have access to a camp at the cat, but ever since the classic I don't even go. I fish because I enjoy it. If I have to fight 100 boats in a little area its just not fun.
I also posted a reply on la sportsman. You just opened the floodgates.
I really would like to see them totally restrict access to the tank ponds during the spawn every other year or something like that. Let the big girls really get big

that is 100% accurate.. that is not a loophole at all. you can have double the daily limit for each licensed person in the house (which is also correct for kids under 16).
so.. using your example, if you have 2 adults, and 3 kids under 16, you can have no more than 200 fillets in the freezer at any time.

There is nothing wrong with keeping some fish to eat... I do it often time.. just not with 3 pounders (mostly 10-11 inchers), and like you said, always within the legal limits.
One final thing... that is why the whole "Bay Wallace" thing got started... because people would post on here, and then two days later, they had 50 boats in the hole they were in.. so you say "Bay Wallace" and it's a nice way of saying "I ain't saying"
most guys on here would be MORE than willing to share info on a spot or two through IM, but won't post it out in the open because of the LURKERS that aren't contributing members of the board.. they just read and read and read...then go catch the fish that others were able to find.
One thing to keep in mind is when fish are removed from an area weather they are eaten or realeased some where else, they will never spawn in that area again, so when someone refers to a place not being all that it could be this should also be included in the discussion. The only way to have a place be great is to not remove any in the first place.
The average meat hunter is in most cases not as seasoned at catching ''BIG'' bass as most tournament fishermen, and say what you want but tourney fishermen can drain an area of big fish in a short time, the meat hunters take all they can catch as long as they can get a 10 fish limit and hurry home so they can come back at get another limit.
2 biggest problems in this state IMO are in this order and we can do nothing about the first one, but we sure can the second:
1) Hurricanes
2) LDWLF Enforcement
I have never ever heard of someone getting caught with more than there limit. And that my friend is sad? LDWF suck in Louisiana!!!!
