Bye bye KY Lake grass
Took these Sunday evening south of Paris Landing. We moved out from the bank to let him do his job and got these shot on my camera phone. Not sure what the targeted grass or bushes were but he was sure giving them a good dose.

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (buzzking2001)
It was on the refuge waters in Swamp Creek and behind Sulfer Well Island. So I am hoping it is limited to the refuge and something they are doing. But it was definately some type of herbacide, I could tell by the smell. I will probably run back there this weekend sometime to see what it did if anything yet.

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (RangerRodney)
Call Paul Rister with the Kentucky Dep. of Fish and Wildlife. He's our local biologist. I've spoken to him before. He's a really good guy and is a big proponent of the grass. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (Slopfishin)
Guys, if you dont remember, tournament weight in droped from a 6 lb average per fish to a 3 lb average per fish after they killed the grass with in a three year period. It just doesnt make any sense to let them go and kill our grass again, Ky Lake was as hot as any lake in the country in the ninties and it is on its way to being there again. I am just so mad i cant even type right now.........................

Yea - if I can call anybody or email a rep - let me know.
-
Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (RangerRodney)
Like I said, call our state biologists tomorrow.
I've got a feeling that if this Swamp Creek is some kind of wildlife refuge they are just trying to control the grass in it. I would imagine that they're not spraying many other places.

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (RangerRodney)
AND THE GOOD LORD SAID YOU GOT TO RISE ABOVE!!!!!!!!!!! WWHHHOOOO!!!! I for one HATE the grass!!! The tourney are so skewed that barkey lake will rarely compete against Ky lake. I have talked to a couple of guys tonight that are as thrilled as I am. The other boaters on the lake hate it as well.. The fisherman are the only one's having any benefit from it. The pleasure boaters couldnt even get around last summer because of the grass.... Some ramps couldnt even be used because of it... I dont want them to kill all of it, but control it....Hell, I cant lie...Kill all of it..lol Come on George M... I need ur help.... $$$
PS
I have some spro frogs and ribbet frogs for sale cheap...lol....Rodney I will even make you a better deal than most since we fish together...

Hey Barnboy.............how about we cultivate it, dry it out, and sell it!!!!!?? You in?? I'll get a waterproof combine and bring it down tomorrow instead of my boat!!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (Swerve-n-Protect)
Rick that is what they did at Guntersville, they combined it and sold it as feed to cattle. There is no reason they cant do the same thing on Ky Lake.
-
Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (RangerRodney)
Just when things start getting better, they have to go and screw with it again. I'll call a local friend tomorrow that lives within that area and see what he knows. He stays down at the Marina/Boat Dock and hears about everything that is going on from some of the TWRA guys.
-
Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (RangerRodney)
So the issue is really not getting rid of the grass, just the way they are goin about it??
-
Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (RangerRodney)
Rodney, I'll call some of the local TWRA guys here in Paris that I know tomorrow and try to find out a bit more about what they were doing. Here is a link to the exact location. http://www.infosports.com/parks/TN/1503197.html The little dot thingy is exactly where they were doing the spraying.
-
Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (Swerve-n-Protect)
Right Rick, i dont have any problem with them clearing it out some but i do have a problem with them killing it out the way they did it in the ninties. That looks like they are going in that direction if they are spraying from BIRD.

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (bassen9)
You boys dont know what ur asking for... If they dont kill it off every few years it will be like the watershed lakes that the grass takes over and then kills all the fish.. I will be making phone calls tomorrow too...Sorry guys..Swerve I will help pay the fuel for the combine http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (bassen9)

Yup, I think you're right. I'm guessing the grass in the refuge was waaaaay thick and they're just trying to thin it out for the fall migrations. They probably spray it every year.

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (mdunc)
I would like to know how killing the grass benefits waterfowl, most of them feed on aquatic vegatation. Who was doing the spraying? Does the KY or TN DNR know about it? And as a biologist I can tell you that grass in a lake never killed a fish, no matter how thick it was. Every clump of grass in the water increases the capacity of that body of water to support wildlife from microscopic to moose size.

I hope it takes over the lake to the point you cant put your boats in.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif Nothing like pulling your boat out of the lake then having to crawl under it and get all that stinky azz grass off. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (artcarney_agr)
I just made a few calls and the KY Fish and Wildlife doesnt know any thing about it right now, but they are checking into it as we speak.

Re: Bye bye KY Lake grass (RangerRodney)
If it was south of Paris, wouldn't a call to the Tennessee Department of Natural Resources be in line rather than Ky?
