DO NOT mess with this flu going around

If you start to get any symptoms, get to your doc ASAP!

Lea and I came back a day early from our vacation after heading to the classic when she got sick. This new strain is a double whammy....you get a secondary infection of some type.

In Lea's case it's flu with pnuemonia...she has been very sick and has had to stay with me since Thursday a week ago when we arrived back home. I took her to the doc right away..she's still very weak, can't eat, in bed and will be here for several more days I'm sure.

A Captain at my Police Dept, young strong healthy man, has been in the ICU in Obici for over two weeks on a vent. They do think he will recover but it was touch and go and will takes months for him to recover. In his case the secondary infection was strep that took over his entire body.

There are four others in ICU with the same flu. One did not make it. Twenty percent of Obici is quarantined with the same flu...

So if you get any symptoms don't take a chance... get to your doc!! My captain waited and it almost cost him his life. He's still not 100% out of the woods!! Have been asked in an im how Lea's progressed...chills, headache, raw throat, horrific crackling/gurgling/wheezing cough, phelgm, severe weakness, no appetite, and she had a fever when we got home of 101, but she had this for four days by the time we made it home....there has been no vomiting or diarreha. She has had no appetitte since it started...barely has eaten one meal in 12 days...

Lea is also one of those folks that gets very sick very fast, but gets over it very quickly...this was very persistent and not much change for several days except to get worse...

Doc put Lea on tamiflu, inhaler to open the chest and bronchial tubes, cough syrup with codeine and antibiotic for the pnuemonia...also very important to drink fluids even if you have to force them....

If you or anyone in your house gets this, get doc to give all exposed a prescription for tamiflu...I asked her doc anout my exposure to her, and she wrote me a prescription and I started it right away...after five days on tamiflu you are no longer contagious...

Joyce is correct.......Doctors are reporting that this is one of the worst flu stains in over a decade. If you think you got it...get to the doctor!

both myself and the wife have got it. I am in the 15th day but we both have done the z-pac and we seem to be getting better. this in nothing to mess around with. musinex works very well also.

I hope Lea is feeling better. Mine hit me on Superbowl Sunday with 103 degree fever. Ive been sick ever since. Jerri took me to the emergency room at Langley last night and Im now on several different antibiotics (Z-pac, Albuterol, Prednisone, Nasal Irrigation, etc). The chest x-ray was clear but the Dr still suspects something. ANd YES i did receive the flu shot about 3 months ago.

As noted above, you'll start to feel better then round 2 hits with a fury.

Hope you get better. I had the same thing it took me out for a week and a half. First a virus then the flu/pnuemonia then bronchitis, kicked my butt! took three rounds of antibiotics to cure me

Heard it was going around here. I try to keep my hands away from my face at all times. How long did it last, seems like a 2-3 week ordeal with most folks.

Mike, my captain finally just woke up today...he will be in ICU another week probably... then a week in the step down unit..and he's so weak he actually has to go to a rehab facility to get his strength back after that...he was in ICU unconscious for about three weeks....bad, bad stuff!

thanks lea, hop your feeling better. mywife cannot do anythig without seating down and catching her breath, i was up all last night havng trouble breathing. we are both sucking inhalers like candy. this really sucks
