On my 920 I hold the handle upside down and fill at just under the first place the handle locks. Only thing I hate about the boat.
Have a 619 and it's horrible to fill up....have to babysit the handle and and if it gets going to fast it will blow back......always spilling gas.....
When I bought the boat the dealer did tell me I needed to fill slowly to avoid blowback thru vent.
I only have a couple of tanks thru my 919. I do need to fill it slower than any vehicle I have owned, but I really has not been a big issue, YET.
When I try to fill fast it cuts off at first and if I find the sweet spot it fills fast until its full.... then BLOWBACK out the vent.
There are a few other minor issues that bother me more, not related to this. I will wait until after my 20 hr service to see how it shakes out then do a write up.

Same thing on my 2014 721. Before taking the vent out it literally would take a half hour to fill up. I said no way, and tore out the vent. I can now run it wide open if I want, but you better believe it’s going to puke out when it gets about 3/4 full. I always put the handle upside down and run it on low so less blows out. I honestly don’t know if I’ve ever gotten the gas tank totally full. The only other piece or advice I can give is try to park where the boat is leaning away from cap (cap is on high side). That is if you can find a station that isn’t totally flat. That seems to help some. Definitely a bit frustrating, but I’m not sure if all newer boats have similar issues with epa regulations.
I had the same issues on my 2016 921, took out the inline vapor canister (believe Drewtick posted this originally) problem is significantly better but not as easy as filling my truck. What I have found is to get it rolling with the first 1/2 gallon or so of fuel and stop. wait 5-10 seconds almost as the initial shot of fuel has to break an air bubble then it will take fuel at a normal rate (with handle upside down). If I ever get back under the access lid I will evaluate the fuel fill line between the tank and the cap , believe there is a low spot in there this causes the fuel to not flow as smooth and direct as it should creating the stoppage and backsplash. My bud has a brand new 2021 921 and his fills in the correct fashion, no upside down handle or having to park on a slant and his inline vapor canister is still installed.
My 2016 721 fueled like a dream. The last 3-5 gallons to completely fill it took 20 minutes. My new 2021 721 fills to the absolute brim without an issue wide open on the nozzle. Gas even bursts out of the vent when it’s full. My cousins 2021 921 elite does the same thing as my new one. When we take a turn on a full tank of gas while trailering gas will come out of that vent onto the road. I haven’t removed my lid yet to see what the difference is between the 2016 and 2021 but whatever they did I like it.
I bring a couple 2x12 boards about 4’ long and drive the trailer up on them. This helps with the air pockets in the tank. The tank is L shaped and when I raise it like this the tank fills perfectly without burping. I also use the technique of turning the pump handle up.
my neighboor has a 721 , it will not take the fuel either ,, I have a Javelin and it will not take the gas either , it splashes all over the place when it gets full
West Marine sells a In Line Valve that'll eliminate the belching or you can keep dicking around with the gas pump nozzles.
My 2012 721 will fill with no trouble until full, then burp gas out all over. I have to listen to here it almost full and stop. You only get a second to hear it gurgle full or it is coming out! One caveat, if the boat isn't level or slightly up hill on the fill side then she struggle. The fill "can't be" down hill or she is a burper!
handle upside down helps and not deeply inserted. I drive my gas entry side wheel up on a 2x4 on side as well and you will find this helps.

My 18' 721 fills just fine. Only problem is when it's full it pukes but I think that's just boats in general. My 14' ranger did it too.
I put the boards on the fill side of the tank as well. Works great for me. I never could get my tank completely full without it burping at me until I started doing this.Quote:

I have a 2015 721. Same problem. I use a couple 2x4's and drive it up on them to create a downhill effect. I've noticed that if I find a station that has a slight/subtle slope away from the pump's (down on the stbd side) it fills up at a decent speed. I too flip the pump handle upside down like someone else has mentioned here. Pretty unsat situation if you ask me....
Have heard of this problem for a long time, but I have had 4 Birds and it seems like the only time I have had a problem was first fill up on each. I put the nozzle in and let it pump while I put ice i the cooler, clean out boat, etc...
No burp over all over the place? DAMN I'm jealous. My Triton was worse - it stunk the entire garage up with gas smell. If you didn't open the rod lockers when you parked it indoors it was scary how strong everything would smell like fuel. Including the tackle storage
Mine won't take gas holding the nozzle normal. But upside down and going slow for the first 5-10 seconds then I can open it wide open and fill it.
It seems like letting the tank get low makes it alot worse. If you always keep 15+ gallons in the boat it helps alot too
I hold the fuel nozzle upside down. Fills with out a problem using that trick. I just have to pay attention to when it’s getting full or it will spew out.
I thought I was going crazy with trying to fill mine up. I have to babysit it the whole time or it stops even upside down going slow.
After having issues the first few times I removed the vent and blew into it incase any fuel was built up. I turn the nozzle to 10oclock and can go as fast as I want. Maybe I just got lucky?
For most the problem is the vent line is too long and has a low spot in it that collects fuel and prevents venting. Shorten the hose and make sure it doesn’t have a sag it it.
The only time I had a real issue was when I got it down below a quarter. I never run the pump more than half speedQuote:

So back to the dealer we go. Turns out there is a flapper valve somewhere in the system that has been removed, well my new tank still had it. Friday the tech got soaked with gas due to a pressure build up. Once I get more details I will let y'all know. I should pick up the boat Tuesday.
