Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
Hopefully, Bombardier will make it right. If, after a few iterations without success, I would ask that they replace it w/ a complete new, dressed powerhead. I would give them a chance.
I'm still not impressed w/ the quality of techs working on these. It appears that they are too few and far between, so to speak. That could be part of your problem. That's why I always come here!
Good luck,

How about a Model and Serial number so we can better help with your question. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Also, a brief description of the problem.
Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
I'm with Rusty, but I also would suggest that this may be a dealer problem with the attitude and competency of the techs being the major part. Of course we are only hearing one side of the story.

Boy, I hope so because we could then get "his" side of the story.

2005 Evinrude 175fplsod, 05079489
I'm not too quick to jump on the dealer or tech at this point, they have kept me informed all along, also, they have been in touch with Bombardier all along. Bombardier has had them throwing parts at it for a week and a half, then had them pull the computer and send it in for rebuild. Got the computer back a couple days ago and it is running worse. A Evinrude regional guy by the name of Larry (don't remember last name) is supposed to be in to look at it in the next hour or so. I'm not ready to start mudslinging quite yet but three weeks is like an eternity for me to be without a boat!
I originally took the boat in around January 10th with the following list of problems as best I can remember http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif
1: Motor is surging on initial start up, this continues until motor has been run at speed for a few minutes
2: Hole shot is terrible, difficult to get on plane with two guys and full livewell
3: After motor is shut down for 15-30 minutes and restarted it will idle fine but when put in gear and given throttle will die once or twice before it will go
4: Starting is taking 2-4 attempts, should start 1st attempt 99% of the time
Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
I'm not looking to make anyone out as a bad guy here, just looking for ideas/help/whatever to get me and my boat back on the water where we belong. This is the place I thought I would have the best shot at finding that kind of help, was I wrong?
Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
No , You are not wrong, These guys in conjunction with with BRP, and your dealer will get that thing righteous!!! http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Re: 2005 175hp DI (Bassmeister)
Latest update, found failure in the number 2 cylinder but not sure why. Good spark, good fuel, good compression (130, 125 in next cylinder), good leak down (10%, 12% in next cylinder). Have been trying spark plug, wires, etc, but no luck yet. I will be picking up a loaner boat Saturday to use since I have friends coming from out of state to fish Dale Hollow for three days which deserves a BIG THANK YOU to the guys servicing the motor http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/bows.gif http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif . The techs have been doing everything possible to get this fixed, the regional guy worked on it today and will be working on it possibly tomorrow and Monday as well. I am just glad I will have a boat so my friends don't waste the trip, one of them is coming from California.
Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
That is a good thing http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif . I'm quite sure that one call from Larry will get you squared away. He knows his stuff. You don't become area TS for any major manufacturer with out knowing your stuff. Here is a http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif for Larry. And one for the dealership, http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif , sounds like Robbie and co are taking care of you with a loaner. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
Which one the one he won in Kentucky?? He fishes BAIT in the TN division I fish BAIT in the SC division. I've never met him but we have exchanged e-mail and I have his # on my cell. The BAIT officials speak highly of him and I have no reason to think otherwise. My only fault is I was too busy at the Nationals to contact him for a face to face, every contact with him has been good, I'm sure you'll be OK. Both parties involved are top notch individuals. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
I am glad to hear BRP is working with you and your dealer to correct this problem. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
BassRN,
When you say "1: Motor is surging on initial start up, this continues until motor has been run at speed for a few minutes", are you just hearing it or do you see it on your Tach?
I've got a set of '04 225 DIs and my port motor surges. I hear it, but I don't see it on my tach. Dealer says it's normal on some motors, so I'm tring to figure out if it's something I need to worry about and push the dealer into looking into it.
Thanks,
- Dae
Re: 2005 175hp DI (RUSTY63)
I hear mine surging, see it on the tach, and actually see the motor shaking back and forth with each surge.
Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
I guess it is bad when you see it on the tach. I hear mine and the way it sounds I'd swear it's suring a few hundred RPMS but I don't see the tach move. The biggest concern I have with my surging motor is that it's not as strong as my starboard motor (WOT is 300 rpms less) and sometimes it happens even after the motors been run for a while.
I hope they get yours fixed soon and now I'm wondering if mine has the same issue as yours but at a lesser degree.

Re: 2005 175hp DI (bassRN)
Jeff you are very welcome. I feel your pain. I hope you all catch some fish.
We , and I really mean the service guys, have done everything we know to do. Bomb sent a faulty code to richen up the engine, they failed to include a cylinder # in the change sequence, and it actually ran worse. The engine runs but we want to resolve the problem and get the rn what he paid for.
As a side note, although we have had the boat for close to a month, not one night did it spend outside. We have also done 2 boat shows during this time. This is a very high priority for us and many man hours have been spent which will not be covered by warranty (i.e. lake tests). I have offered my boat to Jeff from early on because that is what I would want a dealer to do for me.
Now if he just won't screw mine up http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif .
