Thought I'd toss a few up here as well. So far very impressed with the LSS, still tweaking but looking like it's a winner.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (bass boss)
Great shots. This surprises me, because everything I read on the HB board says that the Structure scan is not even close the the quality of SI. Guess that myth is busted. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
I should be able to purchase the SS package within a month or so. Can't wait to get it and get on the water.
What unit are you using for these?

I dont see any use for BASS applications in 30 feet deep or deeper water anyway. Yea it nice to see trees and structure in 100 ft water but what does it matter? In NC, bass are seldom in water greater than 30ft and if they are i'm not gonna catch them anyway. I'm sure in time better software updates will allow the SS to achieve longer side scans while in shallower water. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (bass boss)
You need to travel a little more...if you aren't finding rockpiles and trees in 50+ feet of water you aren't winning tournaments out here right now. We often fish deep water and without these units you are at a serious disadvantage.
I also use StructureScan on my Boston Whaler in saltwater where we are usually fishing deep water. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

That is why I said "I" and "in NC" along with "bass applications". I probably should have said 50ft also. I know some from other parts of the country fish alot deeper. I never target bass deeper thand 20 ft thou. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (bass boss)
Nice shots, bass boss. Keep them coming!
I'm curious as to why the SS becomes very dark beyond about 50'. Is there a brightness or contrast setting that might illuminate this part of the scan?
Is there a blue pallot similar to the HB?
Thanks again for the great shots.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (basstrix)
Basstrix, the darkness you are talking about is a mystery to me also. The real dark shots are the bank in some of my pics. On some of the other it just gets darker the further out it goes. I could probably lighten it up some, but I kinda like it the way it is. I hope future updates will allow the SS to achieve further side scans in shallower water. Here are some more pics from today. I pulled 8 bass up from some of these spots.
Check out this sunken boat.

Thats all from today. I spent more time fishing than idling today. I going back tomorrow. If I see anything nice, I'll take some more shots.
I know I showed this the other day but I went over it again today and I really like this pic better. This is the same tree from the other day.

Re: (bass boss)
bass boss in your last pic it shows your in about 14 ft of water, the cursor is about 10 ft, across the cursor it says 29 ft ''''''' is that how far away you are from the object ????

Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (bass boss)
OK guys this is what I got today. I have found that it you put the SS in 455 khz you can see out alot farther with a little less detail. Just think about, if your scanning 400 ft of total coverage the details are gonna be small anyways. I took the SS off auto and put in manual. I have my surface clutter on and noise reject set to med.
I went back into the cove were I found that tree that I posted earlier. I manually set the side scan to 180 feet in each direction. This covered the whole small creek I was in and the real dark are is the bank on both sides. You can see my tree, It was 100 ft away from were I was. You can also see all the little coves and nooks. The water dept was around 10 ft.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS019.png
Here is the same area coming back out. I moved the cursor near the tree so you could see how far away I was from it.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS003.png
This shot was taken almost at the back of that little creek. The water was only 5 feet deep. Again the real dark area is the bank. You can see docks as well.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS002.png
These are some various shot I took in the wide scan mode. Notice that the water depth is 10-20 foot deep in some of the areas.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS005.png
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS006.png
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS008.png
After I saw some of the wide scan areas I went back on the 800khz to get a better look at some of the structure.
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS009.png
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS010.png
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS011.png
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS017.png
http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/h...hots/SS018.png
Thats all for the next week or so. As you can clearly see, the SS can see a good ways off to either side.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (fishin couillon)
Here is my first attempt to capture screen shots. I was prefishing Toledo Bend and really did not want to spend a lot of time looking for good screen shots to capture. I saw tons of great stuff that I will share one day when I have time to play more. I was there to find fish. Strangely enough I found some taking these screen shots. I was following an old road bed that had a blown up bridge that ran parallel to the 21 bridge. The fish there were Kentucky's scattered between 25' and 35' of water.
I looked at another staging area that I know about and saw why there always is fish there at the "right" time. It is a underwater delta dumping into deep water from a known spawning area. My God, you should have seen what I did, lol......one day I will share.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (bass boss)
The detail on those shots even with 200ft each side, are every bit as good or better then HB. Awesome to see the full potential of the Lowrance units. Plus when you get home and watch them on the PC, they'll be even better.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (HiTorq)
Great shots, Hi Torq. Keep them coming.
I see some of the HB pics where they've zoomed in to show the level of detail, does the SS have that capability as well? It seems it does from a couple of videos I've watched, but I don't recall seening any snap shots posted.
Keep it up, guys, I love these shots!
-
Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (basstrix)
Yep, you can zoom in on whichever window you currently have selected. Look in the bottom left of the upper right window an you can see I have it zoomed in 2X. They were running all the turbines so the water was a mess as far as turbulence goes, caused the screen to wash out pretty bad on the LSS.
Was just drifting down the lake below a dam and spotted this. Ran back up and drifted a jigging spoon thru there a few times and came up with an 8lb striper http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif

Darkness like that is usually a sign of deeper water where the darkness is. this happens on both brands. If there is a drop, you probably will not get a return due to the functionality of sonar.

Not in this case. I think that the 800khz is so detailed that it just gets darker once you scan out to a certain distance. I was in the channel at the back of this small creek in 5-8 foot deep water and the 800khz would only scan out 35 feet till it got to dark to see when it was 100ft on both sides to the bank. It was not deeper water either, in fact the water got shallower. I changed to 455khz and put in manual 100ft scan and saw the bank on both sides clearly.
-
Re: Lowrance StructureScan Screen Shots (bass boss)
I wonder if this has to do with the attenuation of the sonar signal at greater distances.
I'm a newbie here and am getting ready to purchase my first LSS, but I also have some history with ultrasonics and I'm thinking that this is likened to AM vs. FM radio. FM is clearer but doesn't go out as far (800 KHz). AM isn't as clear, but travels long distances due to the longer wavelength (455 KHz). Same thing for a set of polarizing glasses, they let longer wavelengths through, but filter out the shorter ones (UVA,B,C). The water, logs, silt suspended in the water, silt on the bottom, etc. attenuate the signal so that it loses strength proportional to the distance.
I would also assume that this is not as great of an effect with hard bottom and very clear water? Does anone have experience with that?

In the very first picture how did the tree show up on both the right and the left side? Or is this more than one tree?
