What are your water conditions? Pollen or silt in the lake? Put it on 455 kHz and let's see what it looks like.

Lots of pollen in the water have some convinced their stuff is bad. Happens every year at this time. Then magically in a few weeks everything is good again.

It's always a good idea to download the updates to your computer, then move a copy to a SD card to update the unit. This way if something goes bad you always have updates.
