I work part time in a well known children's hospital ER and I can say at shift change when I am walking to my truck in the parking garage I see very few high end vehicles in the Dr. spaces. I do see a lot of Camry's and such though. Also from being around them 12hrs a day in tight quarters very few live in upscale neighborhoods or have extravagant lifestyles. Granted they are not dirt poor but they are not making money hand over fist either.

Not going broke, just making much less money than you probably think, and it's getting to be less each year. An established physician age 50+ can live a lifestyle off of what he nade years ago. But a young doc just out of school is not facing a financial reward that is appropriate to his sacrifices.
Ya know, it's funny that doctors only make too much money when they aren't treating a loved one or saving someone's life. I bet several here would change their tune quick if that happened. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

Mark, you've obviously got the Drs mixed up with the custodial staff. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
Make no mistake, the article is about the 27% fee reduction in Medicare. I get $26 bucks to treat a medicare patient. If they reduce it by 27% we are talking about 6 bucks less on top of a already pathetic payment. Funny thing, my fishing partner is a lawyer and he does not see a problem. Then he get 40% of a case that takes in a few million http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif Just thinks Dr's are greedy http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif I will list the greedy
1) Banks
2) Pharmaceutical
3) Insurance Co
4) Law
Look no further than that list for more than the USA problems. BTW, which on is represented in Gov the must http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif

I'll bet you have quite a few on here who don't live in the conditions you speak of, yet have very little debt. And they're not Drs.http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif </td></tr></table>
I do agree with that, my impression of most on this site is that of way more wealth than I just by looking at their boat photos, I'm happy for anyone who achieves something nice from their labors and also consider myself very fortunate to have what I've been blessed with in life, got good health, family, and quite a few luxuries if I'm honest about it, my current boat is just a 12' jon boat but I feel like a Ranger owner http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif

Your list is a very good start http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif ....I'd replace number 4 with oil companies and go from there.....With out a doubt we have the best government money can buy and many of those same idiots that take bribe money like nobody's business have the nerve to criticize other governments around the world as being corrupt. Effing hypocrites . http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

I'm afraid there will be fewer qualified men and women wanting to become Dr's by 2014, because of the risk reward issue.
Me and my wife just switched Dr's. Our current Dr this year started and new type of healthcare. Our new Dr called it "boutique medicine".
For $1650.00 a year, per person, you can have unlimited visits and insurance is no longer needed because you would pay the flat rate. It's privatized medicine and he sent letters to his current patients saying he will only accept a few hundred patients.
Suppose it's a way of getting around the Obamacare thing for Dr's.

Amen to that list- As a doctor coming in now you have minimum of $150000 in debt (or a rich (not doctor) family). You dont start making money until you are 30 while all your college friends have an 8 year jump and at least $100,000 less in debt. You get paid well, but any given day make true life or death decisions.
Much of a doctors time is wasted dealing with insurance issues, prior authorizations and "non-revenue producing" family meetings, discussions, education. Yes, more staff could be hired to do this= increased overhead. Every year medicare/caid and insurance companies pay less, require more, while staff get COLA raises at minimum, and supplies, rent, malpractice all go up
I love my job, dont get me wrong, but I have lots of friends making hand over fist more than me- including those in medical device sales, pharma, etc. They look good and sell product which is what it has become.
Its not all Obama, though some of his ideas give me the willies, its been in progress since at least the time I started (2000)
