AND your card is ??????

Hotmaps Premium. Same card I've had for the past two years. Both of those years had community edits on them. :confused2:
According to the Navionics web site products list, Community Edits is available on the Hotmaps Platinum and Navionics+ versions.
It is not shown as part of the Hotmaps Premium content- that only has Nautical Charts.
You cannot renew the subscription for the Premium version, you can only use it to verify a Navionics Update purchase to convert the Update to Navionics+, then you would get the Community Edits and Sonar Charts along with Nautical Charts of locations you select.
OK. Thank You for the information.
While updating the original card, two of the three available updates were checked, (available for updates). The third, (community edits), was not checked. I clicked on community edits and a balloon pop-up says, CE not available for this unit/chip (do not remember exact wording). After download was complete both available updates had green color checks with statements saying download successful.
I have yet to put boat in water and try the new updates. That will happen this week beginning Wed.
From my understanding of your answer, I take it I need to purchase a nav+ chip to see sonar charts on my screen? Otherwise I will only see nautical charts?
BTW, Am I not seeing wing dams on the Mississippi because my chip does not have sonar charts? Will sonar charts show secondary wing dams ie:(show the same content as what is shown on their web app)?
Navionics Hotmaps Premium ONLY has Nautical Charts. If you want more data, you need another Navionics product.
You can get Sonar Charts and Community Edits with Hotmaps Platinum or Navionics+
Hotmaps Platinum has more features than Navionics+ and the memory card size is 16 GB.
Navionics+ / Navionics Update is a 2 GB memory card size.
Since you already have a Navionics product, you can get Navionics+ by purchasing the Navionics Update product. Re-read my last paragraph.
A direct purchase of Navionics+ is $179.
Navionics Update is $99.
Sonar Charts may or may not have any extra detail other than contour lines. Sonar Charts is user generated data and things like wing dams are not recorded when you do a recording and upload it to the Navionics Sonar Chart server.
IF you change the Web App view to display Sonar Charts, whatever detail is there is what you get when you download Sonar Charts. The Web App and what is on the Navionics down load server is updated every day.
On the Web App, there is a circle at the lower left of the panel. When that circle is Grey, that is Nautical Charts. When that circle of Blue, that is Sonar Charts. You click on it to change the color/view.
You view Sonar Charts on your sonar/GPS unit by selecting the FishNChip layer.
OK. So now I'm definitely confused. What did I buy? And what do I need to make it work?

Card - Navionics HOTMAPs Premium North MSD/PREM-N6
HB unit 788ci HDDI
To look at what you're lake with the sonarcharts activated you need to zoom-in until 2nm and click on the blue icon on the left bottom corner:
http://i1094.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1b43da0e.jpg
On you're 788 you need to activate FishnChip to be able to see the SonarCharts feature (excuse-me,it has already being mentionne). You're unit can't read the Community Edits as stated on this document:
Community Edits is the little green button:

Not sure if my unit has fish and chip. I have not done a single software upgrade since purchase. 2-3years ago. So not sure what software upgrade I need to have fish and chip available on my unit.
I will look for that option tomorrow when I get to the river. If I cannot find it in the menu. Expect another question in this thread from me.
Maybe in page 136 of you're manual. I'm more familiar with Lowrance.
Well worth to update you're software also.
I found this from Trout Bum:

To see the fine detail on mine I had to go to Main Menu/Chart Menu/Chart Select and select the Fish & Chips option. In my case it was the Left Fish & Chips option as the Navionics card is in my left slot. I used to have it set to Auto with my old Premium card but this didn't work with the new one.
Hope this helps.
This is more of a question than a reply. I just bought a new boat (2014) and it came with the elite 5 HDI. I also got the Navionics Gold charts with it. I have installed the chip but need to know how do I go about getting a particular lake to show up on my screen.
Page button, choose map, select Navionics and use the round button with arrows to move over the region
I also suggest that you read the owner manual
Here's a video showing how to utilize the Fish n' chip (SonarCharts) feature on a Lowrance Touch.

JDFishing or anybody that would know, the Navionics+ 2 mg card , how many lakes would it hold? I live in Knoxville and would like to put all lakes in East Tennessee, and 4 out of North Carolina, 1 out of Ala. Thanks in advance...
An example of card capacity is the 2009 Hotmaps Premium East region has 21 states and is a 1 GB size. It has some space left.
You would not have any issue with capacity with as little as you mentioned.
If you do get carried away adding locations, you can delete what you have on the card and load data to it again.
Wayne nailed it per usual. 2 GB is a lot of data and you'll have no problem with the areas you mention and then some.
remember, you can delete (purge) the card if you fill it up. Completely customizable.
Heres another video on the purge.
