How much should a co-angler pay.

I'd be offering at least $40 and it is not that much these days, and will keep you in the back of a boat. If someone offers me $10 -15 after a trip that's kinda insulting. But in the end you need to talk to your co or boater as to what you mutually feel is agreeable.

That seems fair to me and half of the tourney fee if it is a buddy tourney, and respect the boat you are fishing out of, and he will probally invite you more often.

I will usually pay for just about everything because I would have that expense whether they go with me or not. If they toss me some money, I'll just say thanks and throw it in my wallet but I would never ask for a dime. It's nice to have someone buy lunch for you though...

If he doesn't offer some gas money he is no longer invited. But I won't take the money.

I know a boater who will itemize a bill down to how much oil and additives were used and expect the co-angler to pay half the cost. If he could find a way to charge for tire wear I'm sure he charge the co for that also.

I have about 5 guys that I fish with regularly. All but one has a boat so we switch taking our boats. The guy who has no boat offers me $20.00 each time we go and I take it every other trip..The saying " the boat was going out anyway" doesn't fly here..

That has always worked for me.

We fish a lot locally, and pretty much just alternate boats when we go, so no money exchanged. The non picks up the ramp fee. When we go further, we still alternate boats, non picks up the ramp fee, but we split gas costs. It all works out....NEVER felt it wasn't working out fair!

It depends:
-If it’s the first time or I just fish with this person every once in awhile I don’t ask for anything.
-If you are going local (within 50 miles) and you go together on a regular basis (twice a month or so) I think 20 bucks is fine. It does not pay for half, but who cares. I had a buddy that would fish with me every weekend for years and if I didn’t ask he’d have never paid me a dime. He’d still do that today. And to the people who say “you’d have been there anyway”. Paying 20 bucks for a day in a nice bassboat is peanuts to what the boater is paying so it’s just common courtesy.
-Taking a long trip, Fayetteville to Kerr for instance, maybe30 to 40 bucks.

In our club the co-angler is paired with boater a week in advance. The boater then lets them know how much they will need to pay for the day. Which is half of the boat gas and half of the truck gas. Being in college splitting in really helps. Though there is 1 or 2 in our club that can not afford half and we make sure they are still able to fish. But those that can afford half are expected to pay or not fish. If you guys fish that much and are friends I wouldn't charge anything, but a kick down once in awhile would be a nice.

I used to never charge anyone fishing our local lake. I had the the I'm out here anyway attitude. Then my son had a fund raiser and guess what...all these guys wouldn't kick down 20 bucks to help him out. Now it's 20 bucks for gas if you want to fish. 1) How much you plan on "Front ending" them?

2) 10 miles isn't that far to run IMO.

3) Are you putting them on fish too?

4) Do you Equally help netting/landing his fish or is it just a one way thing?


there are a lot of other questions to be had. Only problem is determining the correct answer based upon what transpires on the water that day. I have personally been in back of a lot of boats. Some good & some not so good. I have offered as much as $100+ just for gas that day to as little as ZERO.

Being a "Rider" is nothing more than one would expect. being a "CO" angler means just that, together. not just the guy in front Putting 5 in the well 1st then see if the Co can catch any by end of the day. There are a lot of Jerks out there that will do anything in there power to keep you from sticking a fish. It effects there EGO too much when you are catching & there not. I have been to a point that I wasn't catchin a thing till AFTER the boater had a limit & culled a couple times because they were not happy with the 1st couple they had. This can piss one off to no end. Nothing like trying to get a limit in 2 hours off Junk water.

So it all comes down to Perception. If you are an Open minded angler, and willing to accept some insight from the guy @ back of the boat. I beleive you both can benefit from have a truly good experience on the water. Otherwsie you will be back on here Complaining about how a Crappy Co they were......but in retrospect you could be as much @ fault.

I will guarentee you in my boat, if we went to all my spots, you don't owe me a dime!! If you know some places & we put fish in boat, then I might consider. but I'm still there fishing as far as I'm concerned. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
