Chad I've heard of people getting bad spools of power pro, mainly in the 50lb variety, but what you're describing is unheard of. I've been using 30lb power pro for the past 6 years and never once had it break on a hookset. It's awsome for a buzzbait and spinnerbait because you really don't have to dot their eyes. For a worm I like to use a MH or M rod. I was straightening hooks on a worm but never broke one. You definitely gotta ease up a little with braid.

Like I said...the problem with it is not the strength of the line, but the shock load to it...if you have a slack line, it will exert umpteen pounds more force than setting it with no slack...the problem is just how I set the hook...I've had it happen with spider wire and power pro...50 pound test...matter of fact, thats the smallest size I ever tried...

That's way too much force. No wonder why you are snapping braid. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

You must be settin the hook on logs http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/stirthepot.gif A fish would at least fly out the water a few times before it broke.
How mqny different spools of Power Pro did you try?? The first spool I bought about 10 years ago is still on 2 reels with no break offs. But I have bought other spools that popped everytime like you mentioned.
3 spools of power pro, and 5 different spools of spider wire...everyone was talking about bad spools, so I gave them a chance over a couple years...still the same...
I had a couple guys tell me there was no way it was breaking, too hard, etc...we tied on a worm hook, hooked it to a bumper and each set the hook like we would if we were fishing and got a bite on a worm...both of them nearly broke the rod...I set it, with less force than they did, and snapped it 3 times in a row half way between the rod and the hook...its not the force I use...it is the slack in the line just before hook set...its always how I have done it, and have success with it...I find I don't have to set as hard because the snapping gets better penetration (or at least I have convinced myself)...its good for hookups on fish...not so good on braid... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif
