Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (gcoxvb)
you were right billy. i dropped in at 11am when the tide was the highest and the river was pretty fast. i was just using shrimp and cut bait fishing the bottom and i got a few small bites right off the rip (i assume they were small cats) after a while of just fishing with this i put on a texas rig u tail zoom (motor oil) but i think i waited to late to do this because the tide was going out and the river started getting really fast. i didn't get much fishing done because i had stuff going on at around 5pm
question: assuming high tide is 11am, low tide 6pm when will the river be at it's calmest?
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (jonboy)
In most of the tidal areas we fish here it usually takes around 7 hours from high to low and around 5 hours from low to high. Some people live and die by the last 4 hours of outgoing tide and run that pattern from Houlihan all the way up the river as the water gets out, and others fish at dead high, dead low and stay in the same places in tidewater all day and catch fish. There is a pattern to tidal fishing, the pattern is it is never the same.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif the moon stages can effect how fast, how high, and low the water is, and how muddy certain creeks are. The bigger fish are upriver but ocasionally a stumpknocker is caught down river. The numbers and easy limits are in tidewater for sure but not many of the opens are won from tidewater.
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (gcoxvb)
Did you drop in on Hwy 21 at the bridge or did you put in he river from the Houlihan and go back up the creek??
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (Bassin Billy)
i dropped in at the bridge, i don't know where houlihan is. it's right by my work so i can fish from the bank on some of my lunch breaks. i don't know of to many other spots around here that i can put my boat in considering all i have is a trolling motor. i'm looking for a 5.5 hp motor i think that will be plenty enough for my small boat, then i can get in some bigger waters
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (jonboy)
Jonboy houlihan is in Pt. Wentworth on hwy.17 just before going into South Carolina. If all you have is a trolling motor it would be next to impossible to go up river from there. That tide and current down there gets pretty bad.
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (512)
When you leave your job and get to the light at 21. Turn left. Go past the creek and proceed under where Jimmy Deloach Brridge crosses 21. 3/4 mile past this will be another traffic light. This is Bonnybridge rd. Turn left onto Bonnybridge. Follow until you get to another traffic light. This will be Ga Hwy 25. Turn left on 25 and proceed 1.75 miles. You will see weyerhauser paper mill and then the Houlihan Bridge. The park and ramp will be on the right before the bridge. I DO NOT recommend launching a jonboat without a big motor!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif When you get a motor you can go under the bridge 200 yards and the start of St Augustine will be on your left.
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (Bassin Billy)
you guys think it would be a good idea to drop in at hwy 21 and have a truck waiting at the hwy 25 bridge. it's going down stream so i wouldn't need to much battery.
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (jonboy)
If you were gonna try it You should definately have someone there to meet ya.

Just thought I'd check in and say howdy. Hope you all had a great holiday. It's hard to believe it's been 4 months since I last posted; harder to believe I've been gone almost 9 months - hopefully time continues to pass as quickly as it has http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif I should be home for R&R around mid-March timeframe, and then end of July / beginning August be home for good. I check the board almost everyday and fish vicariously through you guys http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif I think I've looked at boats online more than any one human being can - planning my purchase once I get home; right now the Stratos 294 / ETEC is in the lead. Anyway, just wanted to check in, say hi, and wish everyone well http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (Bassin Billy)
Billy, I've been meaning to ask you about the Toho trip....How far is the Quality Inn in Kissimmee from the ramp/lake?
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (T MAN)
It's only about 5-10 minutes from the ramp... but sometimes you will thing the bassmaster classic is going out of that ramp if a bunch of tournaments are going on.

Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (512)
I had to be at work at 6 and passed a few on my way in. I can promise you if I had got to the ramp and there were less than 40 boats I would have carried my ass home!!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif It was too darn http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/cold1.gif and raining on top of it?? No thank you... http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (gcoxvb)
i've been hanging out at the house with the family. i sold the stratos back in october. i was planning on buying a new 200 pro xl with the 225 e-tec on back, but my christmas went to crap christmas night. my and my wife purchased our daughter a new yamaha raptor 50 4 wheeeler and it was stolen christmas night. homeowners wouldn't cover it so we had to buy another one last weekend. we got a good deal on a leftover 06 model but it still wasn't cheap. that money was suppose to be the down payment on the new boat. i still fish a little in the ogeechee
Re: 2007 Savannah River Reports (chadthayer1982)
Stolen Christmans night?? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif What kind of person would do that? Sorry to hear about your crappy news. Who knows, you may even get a better deal/warranty on the boat you want by having to wait. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif
