Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (fishin couillon)
I went out again today and went to a few different places. Man, the chit you can find with this imaging. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif And did i forget to mention the gas you burn doing it. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
All these were taken in the Red River in Alexandria.
This is some bulkhead at the port on the Red River.

Not sure what's this but some big as pipe supports. I guess they tie the barges up to it during loading/unloading. In both pics you can see the trees and trash caught up in them.

Not sure what these are. Either big trees or pipe. First pic is it on the left side of boat and second as i was back tracking i got on top of it.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (fishin couillon)
Did you take the pictures of the structure as you pulled up to it then took the SS snapshot? If so you have the transducer backwards or need to make an adjustment in the setup menu. What is on the right side is the photos is on the left in the snapshots.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (acar555)
I took the pics after i passed them. After looking on the screen i figured i needed to take the regular photo just so someone can see what i was passing by. The units are set up correctly. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (fishin couillon)
Thanks for posting the pics Jeremy! http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif Those look awesome, and i know what to expect when i buy mine. I can tell your very happy with it. Were those pics taken with useing mainly the auto settings or manual settings on sensitivity and range??The reason i ask is on my unit i pretty much just let it do all the adjusting, and i have no problem seeing a 1/16th oz crappie jig 40' deep so i think it does a pretty decent job by itself. Some of the older units with less power that i owned i had to crank the sensitivity up to get them to show that little jig. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (xpress spanky)
I'm happy with it and of course, it's my first imaging unit so can complain. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif For the SS settings, i've been manually setting them myself as i see needed. For the 2d i do the same, manually and adjust as needed. Right now the water in the river is muddy as hell and has junk floating around. I was fishing not long ago at a lake and jigging a spoon and it showed up very well. This coming week i will be doing some perch fishing with jig poles. I was able to see the fish take the jig on my 25C so i'm wanting to watch it on the 7.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (macinckirk)
Hi all,
Here are a few screen shots for you from today. The bait fish was loaded on wind blown points today, but the bass just didn't seem to be schooled on there. Even so the weather was beautiful.
This first shot did have a small group of larger fish just beneath the baitfish.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...hots/shot4.png
This one was as I headed up a ledge. Big ball of baitfish.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...ots/shot11.png
Next is just how it can detail a laydown totally submerged. It appears on both side and downscan.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...hots/shot7.png
And some more balls of baitfish.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...hots/shot1.png
And possibly a school of crappie since it seems to have a stronger return than others.
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...hots/shot9.png
And a few more
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...hots/shot5.png
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...hots/shot6.png
Hope you enjoy them and feel free to ask questions.

Overlay.... I am not even sure I know what it is supposed to do... if you have or get these shots sure would appreciate knowing what I am supposed to be looking for. Thanks
-
Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (afishaday)
Overlay is when it puts the downscan image on top of the 2d sonar in the sonar window. Take a look at Jason's 2d sonar pics. You can see that golden brown tint. That is the overlay. You can turn it on in the SS menu.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan
Here are my first screen shots on my maiden LSS-1 voyage. The weather was gale winds, so the boat was really bouncing yet the pictures came out great!
These are on Lake Washington in Seattle, mostly in 50 foot of water...

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (Marc)
Does anyone have some log files.
Should you mount the transducer on the jackplate or drill holes and mount it lower.
Hate to drill in my new fiberglass boat.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (tennerman)
That will be up to you. I thinkg the few i seen on here have it mounted on teh jp.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (fishin couillon)
id like to see some more pics of the 455 khz on hb the 800 is very dark and appears the same with the low intrested in seeing the difference with low .. on the hb i always ran the 400 ..
I would think that the images out farther would come in better once on top the 800 would be clearer

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (edowell)
You should only have to select the "flip right/left" option one time. It will remain selected until you unselect it.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (dmwphoto)
I have an LSS-1 question?? Why does the same image of a tree show up on the down scan and both sides of the side scan??
If the side scan beam is angled down towards the bottom at a 45 degree angle (approx.) why would it display on both sides??
John.
Ps. LSS-1 seems to work fine in depper water but not very well in shallow or very weedy areas less then 10-15 feet deep.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (John Hagins)
Stupid question but here goes.... This can only be added to the HD units right? Cannot add to my LMS-520 can I?
-
Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (bgallim105)
That is correct the structure scan feature only works with the HDS units.

Hello friends, Please I need help.
I am looking for long time a frame unit scan, I contacted several stores and none have it in stock.
Where you have bought, or where can I buy online in stock?
Thank you.

I have only 1 Lowrance Structure Scan left until mid-December and I have a quote right now on it with an HDS10 so I am waiting to hear back from the customer. Here is a link for another BBC sponsor that has the Lowrance Structrure Scans. They may be able to help you.
Best of luck !

Just guessing it kinda looks like an old dam, where the water flows over. Very clean lines for it to be natural. Looks more man made.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (John Hagins)
John,
I think I have figured out what is happening, but I am only making my best guess; I have not spoken to anyone who knows for a fact the area of coverage for Lowrance's LSS-1 sonar. I hope to speak to someone at Lowrance to confirm this.
Look at page 2 of this thread, at the "Big Ass Tree" image by Fishin' Couillon. If you look at Fishin's Big Ass Tree photo on the downscan, you see that the tree is on the bottom in 23 feet of water. If you look at the side scan image, you also see that on the left image of the tree and on the right image of the tree that the distance between the boat and the tree on both side images is also 23 feet.
I understand that the LSS-1 transducer actually has 3 separate crystals inside . The left crystal gathers and displays the left image, the right crystal independently gathers the right image, and the down crystal must overlap both to some degree for an independent detailed down image.
To me that signifies that the LSS-1 side imaging literally sees with the left crystal everything to the left side of the boat all the way to straight under the boat. Same with the right side. So the "Big Ass Tree" must be straight under the boat, so it appears on both side images. On the side image display that Fishin' shows, the distance between the boat in the center and the tree to the side image is exactly 23 feet, the same distance as the downscan. So it must be working as I suspect.
The side image scale is set to 50 feet in his picture, so the field of view shows everything to the side of the boat from straight under the boat out to an additional 27 feet (the 50 foot scale is displaying 50 feet of image from the transducer itself, to 50 feet out from the transducer; as opposed to 50 feet of bottom distance). Since the tree is in 23 feet, subtract 23-feet from the 50-feet (which is the scale setting) and that leaves 27-feet of view remaining out from the tree of bottom view.
Hopefully that is written so it makes sense?
ciao,
Marc

Marc, now that is some deep thought there. I do understand all, well put.

Re: Lowrance StructureScan and DownScan (Marc)
Marc,
After we talked about this a while back I looked around and I found a video. I think you almost hit it on the head. I think sidescan does not cover the area directly under the boat. It goes out to the left or right at 85 degree angles and downscan goes straight down. That is why the sidescan image is very dark directly under the boat. Look at this video and see what you think. Bill

Here is a second video that supports the first and gives some other info on operation.
