It doesn’t do anything for me except work. I have nothing against 4 strokes either. But with the cost of a new one, unless mine ends up in half or at the bottom of a lake I’ll just keep running it.

the upper hp motors are not are the same,,, with the exception of the 150hp motors and they are the same ,, but the SHO and the gray F series have different blocks , ( F series has removable liner sleeves ) the SHO's have some type of coating on the block itself and no sleeves ,,, the bore and stroke is different making for more displacement on the SHO motors ,,,,, and the F Series weighs about a hundred pounds more
Mercury #1 on the water and #1 in the shop! This has been my experience.
I've had a Yamaha for my bass boats for years (about thirty years) with no problems. Bought a Merc (about three years ago) for my pontoon boat and the alternator went out on it on Father's Day of this year. It took over a month to get one in from Mercury. It was the first Mercury I ever purchased. Might be the last.
Mercurys are still being built
When was the last time you had a motor long enough that it was out of warranty???
My Mercury 4-stroke didn't make oil once I got the rings seated in good. Only time will tell if my SHO will get the rings seated good. Once I know I'm past the first 10 hours I'll do it like my Mercury and run it wide open for 30-45 minutes straight. My Mercury made oil until I did that.
I have a 2011 250 PROXS, 2nd owner with around 620 hours. I've put a ton of money into it during my 11 years of owning it. Upper mounts, compressor, oil pump, gear case rebuild and so forth. I've been saving for a repower and will most likely go with a Suzuki when I do.
Their reputation in the Salt world is enough proof for me. Yamaha F series are just as good, but that isn't the same as a SHO. There are quite a few pros running Suzuki now. Not nearly as many as Mercury or SHO'S and I get that as some guys don't want to give up speed.
Some people will choose 1-2mph extra in favor of better reliability over time. If I would have had a choice I would have probably chosen a Suzy. I find it funny how both of the boats I've bought new didn't come with a choice of motor. If I have to repower my Xpress and the SHO turns out to be a turd Suzy and Merc will be my two choices if they stay as good as they are now. Only advantage I see with the black motor is there's a service center a stone's throw away everywhere in the south.
skeeter i think is the only boat being sold with a Yamaha on it , Yamaha owns skeeter , so i would assume that has alot to do with the other boats being sold with the mercury, which puts alot of merc motors out there ,
There is nothing at all wrong about owning a Yamaha, you are never going to convince me that there is something wrong with owning a Mercury.
All I can say in the past couple years there have been a ton of used Mercury's for sale
I've owned both and have no issues with either
I do love the sound of the new mercs when they fire up
