that also works pretty good up here http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif and guys don't be scared to try it around timber a spoon pops off pretty quick as long as you don't set the hook on the tree http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
Re: Caught a couple of nice bass on Tuesday (mikepags)
good job Bill. I see you are still fishing the same ponds as always. Before the picture I was thinking Conway

.......just from the size and time of year, I could tell ya it wasn't Conway. LOL
It took 4.13 to win the weekly tourney on Conway, yesterday.....and those are the guys that are suppost to know that lake. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
If there was a lake that needed to band cast nets, that's the lake. Shad fisherman are killing it, bottom line!!!
Re: Caught a couple of nice bass on Tuesday (FL Dell)
I really enjoyed fishing Underhill back in the day with Dell and Dom. We had a couple good days out there!
Re: Caught a couple of nice bass on Tuesday (fmm1)
Hey Dell.............Scott and I fished Underhill Sat. a.m. and caught 22 and largest 4.7. Spoke to Don and he said he won one of the Wed. night tourneys recently. He fished next to me for about an hour and said he caught 3 bass all day Sat. I cannot agree with you on the cast nets during the summer, spring or fall. But I will agree with you on cast nets during the winter. I admit I have thrown a cast net on Conway for 40 + years during the winter and caught tons of bass during that time. I know I have taken my wife out during Dec. when the water temps are in the 50's and she has boated more than 200 bass with shad in 5 hours of fishing and I never fished during that time. Scott and I have caught as many as 200 in 4 hours of fishing with shad and artificial. But there are times even with the shad are schooling that you can throw anything at them and they want bite anything but a live shad.
How are things with your Sat. tourney on East Lake?
Re: Caught a couple of nice bass on Tuesday (billfish)
Hey Neal....................I fish the local lakes a lot because it saves me money and gas. Now that I am retired I watch my pennies a lot closer. This coming spring I will be spending a lot of time of East Lake,Big Toho. and maybe Kiss. It's time for me to start fishing for big fish again, at least until summer. I would like to see if I can top my 3 biggest bass this coming year.
Re: Caught a couple of nice bass on Tuesday (billfish)
When the "shad only" bite is in effect, there will be 10+ boats throwing nets. I know anyone, even the shad guys will tell you that with those numbers, it has to hurt the population....maybe not in the winter, when the shad schools are big and tight, but in the summer when the numbers are lower.....from being overfished in the winter.....the bass suffer..... Just my opinion, though.
I have East Lake, tomorrow.... gonna be a little windy. I'll let you know how I did.
Re: Caught a couple of nice bass on Tuesday (FL Dell)
Dell, last month I had a friend that was diving in Conway looking for a rod/reel that was pulled out of his boat. I asked him to check an area out for me (12 to 13 ft. flat that drops to 31 ft.) and while he did. He told me there were 3 schools of 3" shad suspended about 17 ft. down and there must have been more than a million shad total. He said there were a lot of 1 to 2 lb. bass hanging around but the bigger fish were on the bottom or suspended 2 ft. off the bottom. This is the same place I use yto dive in the late 60's and caught a 14 lber. back in Aug. 1984. A lot of people don't realize that bass mostly chase greenies (1 to 4 inch minnows) this time of year on Conway. I will agree your comments about shad fisherman is very good. There was a time I was the only person throwing a net on Conway until a couple of Guides saw me and started use shad instead of shiners for their clients. One of the biggest problems with shad and minnow population has been loss of vegatation along the shore. Home owners have raped the grass lines along the shore (structure for minnows, bluegill and shad) and removed vegatation that cleans the water and provides habitat for other fish.
