Robo worm , 4 inch morning dawn with the chartrues tip.
they will smash a suspending jerk bait sitting in their bed....
also, a better bait then a drop shot, its a wacky rigged, lightly weighted 3" senko. They absolutely can't handle a seiko just sitting, motionless on the bottom of their bed.
I got on them good a couple weeks ago on beds. 50 fish over 4 lbs in a day. I used a white smallie beaver. The drop shot works great on beds. I would watch fish not eat but nose the bait off the bed. The weight would still sit on the bed and tighten the line a little and the bait would come right back over the bed. The fish would turn and be pissed and come smoke the bait. Great way to catch them.
Zoom lizards work great on a DS. They make 4", 5", 6" and 8" (at least), and TW carries them all. GP is all you need, and they're relatively cheap.
Thanks for posting this WisconsinF.
Excellent video, thank you for sharing. For years I didn't even know how easy it was to catch bedding fish until some people on here told me when I was sharing what I thought was an incredible day. Though some could have done so with a bit more tact. I grew up fishing small ponds full of largies, I didn't know squat about smallies until about 8-9 years ago when I really started to learn how to fish for them.
I figured that bed fishing wasn't ever a good thing for the smallies, which is why I really laid off of it a couple of years ago. It's rare that I get on them on beds anymore now. I didn't expect it to be detrimental even when practicing immediate catch and release.
I have a buddy who's kid is just getting into bass fishing. My plans were to take him up to do some bed fishing this weekend just to put him on a few and get him really hooked on fishing. But that vid is making me reconsider it. Think I'll take him to a smaller local pond instead where I know they're all post spawn. Again, thank you for sharing.
