You described exactly what the factory did to my trailer to add the breakaway tongue. They actually bent the outer braces in to meet in the middle. It turned out absolutely perfect, there is no sign at all that this wasn't originally built with the breakaway tongue. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
