Trust me, thats not the same problem.....unless you had to use a pipe wrench and a BFH to get them out.....it's not the same!...

Mine won't budge and IMO the problem is the design which puts the base of the seat pole right in the livewell. Way too much moisture. I bought a strap wrench to try and will sand the pedestal.

I had to trim some of the carpet that was covering the hole also. I rubbed inside the hole and it was very dry and rough. It just needed a little lubrication. Make sure that nobody uses WD40 because it will dry it out even more and you will never get it out.

I had the same problem on my 97 202 I had to sand down the pedestal..I put a piece of tape were the carpet height was so i would not sand any higher than it needed to be.No more problems after that.

It's definitely an interference problem. The tolerances of the base hole and that of the pedestal tube are too tight. To take Rackman's idea a step further, if you want to keep the hole concentric, use a cylinder hone with a drill instead of the drum sander.
If you use grease, it can tend to make things worse in that it creates that suction effect, adding to resistance.
The previous owner of my Champ switched it over to the pin style. Instead of just installing the adapter plug from 1.77 to 3/4 pin, he mounted an entire base, which I don't think was a good idea. He went through a lot more work to accomplish the same thing and now it's limited to one style.

I've seen so much of this...
First, as noted trim the carpet and then - remove any carpet adhesive that found it's way into the hole during assembly. That will solve most problems.
My last Ranger had the problem so badly that the diameter of the seat post was visiably worn away. All of the metal residue on the bushing confirmed this, and my calibrated thumbnail put the wear at about .015" - that's a lot! I measured the ID of the hole and it appears the bushing swelled and I had an interference fit. I don't know what caused the bushing to swell, but my first guess is that the plastic is hydrophillic ( absorbs water), but again, that's just a guess. Either that or the plastic bushing shrinks making the hole smaller. Come to think of it, that makes more sense.

I had the same problem. A strap wrench didn't help -- they were still too stuck for that. I tried getting a few friends to help pull them out and even that didn't help. The only way I could get them out was to use several blocks of wood and my tire jack from my Ford Truck. Since then I trimmed the carpet a bit and lightly sanded the area. No problems now.....
