Re: allison stability (chad202)
Don't get yourself scared of an Allison because of the way they drive... Learning to drive one is one of the coolest things I've ever got to do with a boat... All you got to do is take baby steps and try NOT to overtrim or over correct and you'll be cruising safely... I also have a wife and 2 kidz, so an Allison is gonna be my choice for a while, if not forever... My wife loads my boat on the trailer every time we're out, but would never get it on plane until I MADE her this past July... Once she got it up and going, she hit 65.2 and decided that was fast enough for her, but she did this with the motor tucked under and had to use no steering input... So I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can still run fairly fast if you want with family on board with out putting it on the edge... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/glasses.gif
Re: allison stability (V6MERC)
i am not at all scared of learning to drive an allison. i'm not sure if any of you are familiar with astro F-18's, but they are a dog to drive. i had never been in anything like it untill i bought the boat. and learning how to drive it has been a frustrating but fun time. i am not turned off by the fact that allisons dont drive like the slow boats, i was just making sure they dont drive any worse than mine, which is very bad. the f-18 is known for being one of the most chinewalkinest boats ever. since learning how to drive mine, i have had 2 friends with new to them bullets that ran 80+, ask me to drive their boat and help them with the chine. i could hardly tell they chinewalked at all. with that being said, i am sure i would not have a problem with an ally, especially if it is not set up to do more than about 80-85mph. thanks for all the input from everyone, it is really appreciated
Re: allison stability (bigeastro)
I don't know anything about the F-18 Astro, but if you can drive a Bullet, you should have no problem driving an Allison... Allison chinewalk is totally different than any boat I've ever been in, and I think most the other guys will agree with me on this, but to me seems more predictable when learing... My boat, and all the other Allisons I've drove, drive better the faster you go if set up correctly... My boat takes more correction between 73-80 than it does above 80....
Re: allison stability (V6MERC)
I really can't add anything more to the info already posted, so I won't even try.
I will say if you can get a 21 2+2, get it - I seriously doubt you will be disappointed. I would however add that I would opt for the 250 XS.
