I dont charge the Co ANYTHING!!! You would be on the water paying the same for gas with or without him in the boat, why charge for that??? Does he charge you for backing the boat in, netting your fish, knowledge of spots to fish in, picking your butt up from the launch??? What ever happened to the days of just having a new buddy to fish with???
My buddy and I fish together once or twice a week. He gives me a twenty each time. Dosn't matter how far we go on or off the lake. It all evens out. I don't think there is anything wrong with a guy helping out with the gas. Where else can one go these days and have a good time all day for twenty bucks. When I fish in the back of someones boat I offer gas money up front befor the day begins. If we stop and get gas on the way I always chip in, it's only fair, even if I'm invited. The boat owner is paying for the fuel, oil, insurance and fees, it's only seems fair to pay for part of the fuel. If they totally refuse any help with the fuel then you need to get lunch for sure. We have some non boaters in my club and they always pay the boat owners entry fee (20.00) That works good for them.
My partner and I do it this way, he pays all the entry fees. I take care of the gas.
If it's a long drive, we pull with his truck and split the entry fee. He pays gas in truck, I pay gas in boat.
If we're just practicing, I don't take any money from him. I'd be out there anyway.
If I was the boater, I would expect nothing. Way too many people seem to think, as the boater, they are entitled to money for no reason.
I don't take money from co-anglers. I am going to be fishing anyways, why charge them? Let them use the scoot for their "Buy a Boat Fund" if they would like.

1. 10 miles round trip to the river.

Has your friend ever owned a boat? If so, he probably is aware of what it costs to operate one...and he shouldn't expect a free ride (he probably doesn't WANT one either). Regardless of what you may hear on the topic, it absolutely is worth SOMETHING for him to tag along. While you might be "going anyway" as some put it, he wouldn't be going at all without your assistance. There is a reasonable expectation for anyone that is a regular fishing buddy and I bet he knows that too. I will say however, If you are calling him and personally inviting him to go fishing with you, things could be different. But, if this is a regular event, then he should pay something for his involvement... http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
I would feel poorly, having owned quite a few boats and knowing what the costs are for day to day outings, if my boat friend refused money from me. It says something more than them just wanting to be "a friend"...and NOT offering it would say something about me too... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif
Just alternate turns at the gas pump and he should hit you up with a gallon of oil once every other month. Should be sufficient... http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Have a good week. Gone fishin. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/newyear1.gif
If Im goin fishing anyway then they bring lunch and no payment. If they ask for me to take them fishing then they usually offer 20 to 30 and I ask them to bring lunch also.

Co-angler shouldn't have to pay a dime. It's bad enough the co-angler has to feed the boaters eggo all day long, fish dirty water, gets no space in the boat, and net his fish.

I didn't know the co had to bring the waffles--is that a local thing? That should cover any boat expenses. Who's responsible for the syrup?

As a co I make my own syrup for the boater to eat.
The guys i fish with if its a close trip like that the non boater usually just buys the other lunch. If its a very long trip (a few hours away) wwe usually split the gas. If i ivite someone that means i was gonna go anyway so i dont ask for any money. I enjoy the company

I assume you're talking about your non-dairy whipped topping. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sick.gif
The way I look at it:
If you ask them to go, they don't owe you anything.
If you guys fish together often and fish tournaments, Half the boat gas and tournament fees are appropriate. The boat is yours therefore, you pay all other expenses.
I don't expect anything. If somebody is on my boat with me then I invited them. If somebody is on my boat without me, it's stolen. Call the cops.

I don't expect anything from my kids, parents, other family members or friends. I don't fish with people that don't fall in these categories. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
I say it's up to the boater or the guy fishing with the boater before I got my own boat the guy I fished with I would fill the boat up with fuel or buy some eats and drinks.
