You can find tires cheaper than these but you really get what you pay for with the michelin. My dad has 60k miles on his and still some tread left.
Re: Best truck tires for towing??? (SoonerFan)
tirerack.com is a good place to research tires. Organize them by average reviewer ratings. I am on second set of firestone destination a/t's. The first set lasted 70k. Dont think you can find a better tire for the price.
Re: Best truck tires for towing??? (Parrothead)
PH....this may tell a lil more why he is not happy. I have the same truck. I had the Bridgestones on it from the factory. They started cupping at 5000 miles. Chevy said to take it up with Bridgestone so I did. I raised hell until 25000 miles when they was cupped so bad you could leave the store with a 1/2 gal of ice cream and get home with a milk shake. Bridgestone would not do squat about it. Sooooo....to spend $1000 on a new set of tires that soon sux.
I put a set of Michellin LTX's on my truck and 23000 miles later...they still look new! HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Re: Best truck tires for towing??? (sandbarDan)
Hard to beat the Michelin LTX M/S.
I'm on my second set on my Dakota, first set got right at 90,000 miles before I hit something and blew one out on the highway. I was still planning on running them for a year or two longer but decided to buy a new set when I destroyed one.
No spin at all on wet ramps and they go like you wouldn't believe in snow.

No kidding. I remember buying a set of Generals for my 57 Ford for $99 mounted and balanced. Those days are gone. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif
It wasn't all that long ago that I put new tires on my last pickup for a little over $600 but they were 17's.

i can understand that. My truck has the same tires and they have ~15k miles. I haven't had any issues with them yet (knock on wood) but i know the day is coming.
I didn't want to sound like a dick- i don't have a bunch of money to throw at tires or anything else for that matter. I just don't get worked up over expenses that i know are coming and that i brought on myself. This is why i am boatless right now. Sure, affording a boat isn't a problem but i wont be the guy on here pissed off about the cost to maintain the rig.
I knew when i purchased the truck (with 17inch wheels--excuse my early post), tires would be expensive. I will try my best to budget for them prior to needing them. This doesn't make it any easier; the price is out the roof. Just not much i can do about it. Kinda like gas prices. Its pay the price or walk.......
and to my earlier post--if tires always cost $700-1000........would you even question it? Thats the reality i have seen in my lifetime.
Re: Best truck tires for towing??? (SoonerFan)
I just put a set of the new BFG Rugged Terrain on my 2500 and really like them

You should have seen all the price increases on tires last year!! We sold a set of Goodyear Wranglers that we had to order for the custmer overnite, and he came in 2 days later to have them put on,and the price increase per tire was a little over $90 per tire. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif We had to sell those pieces of crap for what we quoted,AND no we didn't recomend the Wranglers. It was just what the customer wanted, and they were 265-70-17 10 plys. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sick.gif
To answer your question on tires,i put Michelin LTX M/S 2's on my own truck. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

Those are some really good tires as well, and would be right with the Michelins.By the way,Michelin does own B.F.G. and Uniroyal. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

+1 Best tires I have ever used for pulling. Around 40K on the current ones with about 50% tread left.

The tire price is bad enough then add the $100 or more that they want to charge to mount an balance, disposal fee, and tax! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif

Same here, except Michelin MS2's Longest lasting tire I could find on reviews and I read about 500 of them. Most said they get 70,000+ miles out of them.
Re: Best truck tires for towing??? (threeriversmarine)
Nitto terra grapplers on my ride....the goodyears that came on it new wore out with good mileage on them but they were soft. Everytime I went down a gravel road to the hunting woods id poke a hole in one after about 40k. Bought the nittos rated for 1 ton truck that were a little thicker and afger 40k on then im just now gettin to about half tread....think they're 10 ply tires....made sure because I was so tired of changing tires on a muddy road...
Re: Best truck tires for towing??? (threeriversmarine)
Michelin LTX M+S on my '04 GMC Yukon XL Denali - 74,000 and still going strong. 6/32 to 9/32 tread left at last rotation. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
