Re: Now it seems many Dr's are going broke. (JohnM)
OK, going to try and not be political here.
One of the National Healthcare Bill's provision was changing from indirect government guaranteed student loans to direct government finaced student loans.
That means that the government will be lending directly to college students.
This is done at the same time as Drs. are going to be put under the squeeze when it comes to Medicare and Medicaid patients. Many will be choosing to "opt out" rather than take the signifigant cuts that will be coming.
Do you think that repayment of future student loans to medical professionals will have provisions that require the acceptance of Medicare and Medicaid charges?
Basicly the government will have it's boot on the neck of future doctors who owe student loans.

As much as I despise Obama, it's not due to his tenure as president....the insurance companies have been squeezing doctors for years, and no one gets in their way. My son is a chiropractor.....when I go to see him, my insurance - United Healthcare - pays him a sum of $10 no matter what procedures he does. Last time I had an outpatient surgery, the bill was $12k (yes, maybe exhorbitant) but the discount, negotiated by the insurance company with that facility, was over $11k of that $12k charge; so insurance paid like $700. I'm sorry, but our medical profession is going to be compromised, and we'll all end up with Canadian-type medical care if we continue to let the insurance companies dictate medical coverage. Just MHO of course! But factual! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif </td></tr></table>

Wouldn't it be good biz to float the loan knowing everyone is going to be forced to purchase insurance in a few years?

I changed our family name to Rodriquez and we now receive free medical coverage.

I still say everyone that thinks more government is the answer should jump into the VA system INCLUDING Congress and lets see how it all works out.

Excellent point John. For all the people that think uncle sams dollars are going to build the best healthcare system in the world all they have to do is look at the one that's already in place called the Veterans Administration. Its a sin how they treat veterans http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthdown.gif and now they want to force that type of system on the rest of us and think its the best solution. Most piss poor run hospitals best days are still better then most VA's on their brightest day.

Already happening in most professional fields. I read an article, dental specific, but could be applied to medical as well that gave this advice:
0-100k in loans - work in private practice
100-200k - should work in a government health center for at least 2 years to have some loans repaid.
200k plus - don't even consider private practice. Work at a govt health center until loans are almost paid of.
* All these loans are most likely between 6 and 9% interest if through the gov't. Don't do the math, it will depress you. Just something to think about.

Sad but true. Spent 3 months in the hospital with cancer and lung desease, and many more months of out patient care and witnesses it (free care for the illegals) all the time.
Re: Now it seems many Dr's are going broke. (Wall-I)
There is money being made in the healthcare systems.....Don't kid yourselves....
Everytime I turn around the Hospitals are expanding and there are new facilities being built on every other block......
The system is just being forced to go through the same corrections as every other industry...
Like was stated earlier.....More and more people are losing their insurance and are letting procedures and tests go in order to feed their families......
If it comes down to getting a minor surgery or keeping your kids fed for the next year.....What are you going to chose???

Re: Now it seems many Dr's are going broke. (Alan S)
I sell to hospitals and many are struggling. They are just cutting programs and people to stay operating.

Again common sense would tell me....Maybe THAT has something to do with it.
Like everyone else they need to trim back.....But based on...hell their vehicles alone, they clearly aren't cutting back.
Lets see, maintain a 500,000-1mil house, and a 100,000 Range Rover, or Mercedes, and struggle to make ends meet, AND lay people off, OR cut back and stop taking that same size piece of pie they did before things starting getting slow.

Where did this "free care for the illegals" come from? Was it the hospital offering it or a government agency?
Re: Now it seems many Dr's are going broke. (TritonMan250)
Has nothing to do with obama. Its been like this for close to ten years. Insurance companies are not paying the Dr.s...
Wife was an office mngr for 15 years. She has told me of the spiral since the first day we have been together.
Insurance companies dont pay the doctors back at all. 10K surgery, doctor gets 2K and has his costs to pay out of that. Hospital will get 20% for use of facilities...you get the idea.
And yes, plenty dont adjust their means of living either.
