Re: Thrown Blades on Yamaha Props (pbmang)
The last time I lost a blade it was determined by the dealer that I hit something and it took out the LU also. I asked them to give me a letter stating that (took pics) and I claimed this against my insurance. Got a new LU and a prop. A year later I lost a blade without any damage to the LU and it was determined by the dealer that the prop was defective and they gave me a new prop. In any case, it all depends on which way the remaining broken blade is bent on the prop that determines if the prop was defective or an underwater object was hit.
Re: Thrown Blades on Yamaha Props (Rich Z)
Would anybody like to buy SEVERAL two eared Yamaha props? I can provide M series or T1's.
I'm not prejudice. I should have three of each.
By the way, You WANT your insurance company to think you hit something. In the world of claims, it makes no difference who's fault it was. If you're unfortunate enough to be hit by a tornado.....it's still your fault to an insurance company.
But, if you hit NOTHING.....It must be faulty parts....go see Yamaha about it and leave us insurance companies alone. Come back when you hit something. AND, by the way, even though we don't cover that, you still made a claim....and that's your fault too.
Re: Thrown Blades on Yamaha Props (SkeeterDD22)
So what happens when a prop "throws a blade"? I'm envisioning a prop blade flying through the air at a very high velocity and who knows what after that.
Re: Thrown Blades on Yamaha Props (Northeast Bassin)
They are un predictable. Some hit the anti cav plate and bend the propshaft while taking chunks out of the plate, some come up through the hull or motor cowling, some just miss hitting anything.
This should not be an insurance claim, but a warranty claim if the motor is still under warranty.

Depends on which direction it goes.

We've had adjusters come out and make us take a customers lower unit apart to see inside of it. Two have been denied payment due to the adjuster thinking the lower units came apart from the inside out. The others got a check because it obivous....collision damage.

Since the original post is almost 5 years old I wonder what the outcome was?
