Re: Keep loosing hooked fish on rattletraps (AveryF)
If they are Bill Lewis traps definitely change the hooks. Japanese traps and Redeye shads have pretty good hooks already for the most part. The thing I would change is the rod! Get a glass or composite rod with a soft tip- you'll lose alot less fish!

I'll also give that a try! Thanks guys!

Yes, get some Mustad short shank Triple Grip short shank hooks and throw the old ones in the trash. You don't lose fish on these trebles period.
Re: Keep loosing hooked fish on rattletraps (lknbassman)
Also, if the water your fishing does require braid, try a good mono like suffix siege in 12 to 14 pound test.
I always change my hooks out also, and a use a diawa green stick in MH 7 foot and a kislter LTA 7foot in MH as well. For hooks I like Owner stinger hooks.
Re: Keep loosing hooked fish on rattletraps (BrianFLA)
I strongly recommend Owner Stinger-41 trebles in the black chrome finsih... size 6 for smaller or mini-traps, size 4 for medium, size 2 for larger or mag traps... they are short shank, extremely strong, and very, very sharp... they also have a slight bend towards the shank which really helps prevent fish from throwing the lure... they are a little more expensive than Mustad and Gamakatsu's but well worth it... in my opinion Owner are hands down the best hooks on the market
2nd choice would be the Gamakatsu EWG's
Re: Keep loosing hooked fish on rattletraps (dpage70)
the mustad triple grips are great
and would definitely use a softer rod a med or even glass
Re: Keep loosing hooked fish on rattletraps (Paul8877)
You can use whichever "power" rod you think you need, i.e. M, MH, H, XH. Just make sure to get a moderate tip.
