Re: what is the best large mouth lake in tx ? (fishnfireman)
I personally think all lakes have peaks and valley's as the top 50 list indicates, Fork has the list dominated, hands down! However, nothing recently as it was in the 80's.
Them S. Texas lakes have been kicking butt! But now, the rush of people and pressure there will produce the same trend, IMO...........
There are TONS og awesome fisheries here. As BMCD indicated, I haven't fished them all but I'm sure trying http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif

Unfortunately, the best bass lake is closed. My all-time favorite is Squaw Creek. But since 911 http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif , it's been closed because of the nuclear power plant on the lake. I have had some of the best fishing ever during the summer before they closed the lake. I've fished most of the lakes in North Texas and East Texas, but Squaw Creek was by far my favorite.
The fishing at Lake Fork has dropped off tremendously the last few years due to enormous fishing pressure and the numbers prove it. Still, on any cast, the fish of a lifetime could be on the other end.

Re: what is the best large mouth lake in tx ? (Tx Champ)
Alan Henry had it's day and since TPW isn't going to drive this far to keep it pumped up, the lake is over from what it was 3 yrs ago. Maybe with a good break from pressure and about 5 years of being left alone it might make the top five, but it can't handle the pressure that it got the last several years.
Two spawn seasons ago about one in five trailers at the ramp had Texas plates. The lake is only 2800 acres, it can't take that kind of pressure like an Amistad, Fork, or Falcon..............

Great lakes, a little sleeper not mentioned here yet, Stillhouse Hollow Lake, Lots of 5 to 8 pound fish, takes 20+ pounds almost every time there is a tournament on the lake. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Re: what is the best large mouth lake in tx ? (ToledoBendChamp)
I agree...Stillhouse has gotten crazee since the flood.
I'm wondering if the same deal will happpen to Amistad once the water drops and the grass is gone?!?
If so I could see 50lbs winning one day Tourneys regularly for a while. My livewells are big but I dunno..lol http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
Re: what is the best large mouth lake in tx ? (Triton Chris)
Another sleeper is Conroe, taking 30+ to win T's on that lake. Couple of Share lunkers too. But its still a tough lake and weights usually drop off fast.

YOU SAID IT http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
15 years ago if you lived in some parts of West Texas.....You either drove to New Mexico Or Old Mexico of which I did for about 15 years.
It says a lot for our TPWD when I quit going to Old Mexico because I could find just as good a fishery right here in Texas http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif
