Lol, the no wake zone t aquia is 3 miles long
Yep and it holds a lot of snakeheads.
Going there this afternoon.... I have a good feeling.
I have caught 4 within the last two years. I caught an 8lb against the bank in widewater in aquia creek. he was under the thickest mat. Threw top water frog (scum frog) on it and he crushed it. I have also caught them on chart/white spinner bait. Give it time you will get one.
I went out on Wednesday and had one knock a jitterbug so loud it startled me! Then it stared it down and followed it to the boat then took off and cleared the water in a 5 foot horizontal jump... It was intense... No sign of any others after that...
You need a frog. Preferably one you don't really like. Color is not an issue as it just needs hooks. Big sharp hooks!!
Get in the back of the coves off Aquia and look for the nasty matted yuk with just a few pockets and no more than 2' of water. The closer to the hard bank the better. Toss the frog on the mats and creep it off into the pockets. If the head misses it throw back in exactly the same spot he hit it and do that before the rings settle. He will hit it again. Just keep doing that till he gets steel.
Rip gills, toss, and repeat.
Have fun!
Good advice! Went out again yesterday out of aquia and threw frogs into the mat... Got one confirmed snakehead hit, saw a HUGE one ot 3 inches off shore at low tide behind some grass but couldn't get it to bet (threw my lure right on top of where I saw him) and pulled out 3 or 4 nice bass.... Still haven't gotten one into the boat! Going into the mouth of aquia tomorrow to try my luck in some of the coves.
Caught one last week in Powells Creek on creature bait in 2' or less water, 13lbs. 8oz.
we paid for the biggest snakehead in the PVA event both days and they were both 6+. and several smaller ones.
Went out last week and caught two!! Neither were very big, but it was good to get them in the boat... Went out a couple of it ago bow fishing and they were EVERYWHERE in the hydrillis... Mounted a laser sight on the bow for longer shots and am going out again tonight to stick some.
how did it go?
Got one good sized snakehead and a few carp.... Best bow fishing night I've had in a while :)
