Great motor Firecapt, you will not go wrong. I have an 03 225HO that has ran flawlessly for me. I don`t think there were any changes (Rusty or CM, correct me if I`m wrong) between an 03 and 04 motor.
Mike
i'm running an 04 225ho on a 21xd bullet & can't say enough good about the motor's performance. fuel, oil, hole shot, cruise, etc, etc. it's fast, too, but it's on a fast hull. i'm not much for spending lots of bucks for the last few mph that some do (can't afford it or i would, too http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif ), but all stock & an out of the box 27 renegade it does VERY well. positively the best motor out there, imho. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Correct me if I am wrong,I thought that the Direct Injected and the Ficht were the same engines,Bomb stopped putting the Ficht name on them to get away from the
Ficht reputation that came from the early 150-175hp.I just bought a new 2002 200hp and it says Ficht Ram on the side of it.The 2004 engines have the same cowls and they say Direct Injected. I am sure they have made some changes over the years. But the tecnology of the injection is the same.If I am wrong Please correct me.I have had the same questions myself. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
You are correct. Name change only.
Basically Yes......There are differences in the Ficht and DI systems.
I love my 03!!!! SSL!
John, Thanks for the info on the 225 HO, I just picked up my Ranger with a 2004 DI 225 HO on it. I'll have it out in the water next week to find out how she runs. I sold a Bass Cat with a 89 - 200 XP on it and I never had any major problems with it for the 15 years I owned it. I hope to get that and then some out of this new Rude.
With all the good things I have researched on this motor, I wish I had one! Congrats on the new ride!
When BRP bought OMC motor group, they FIRED everyone of their suppliers and made them re-apply to have their components in their motors. Basically they wanted no junk! They knew what they were buying a proven technology and a strong brand following but they knew that they had to restore the name. Even though it is Ficht technology in the DI's they had to shed the FICHT name due to past problems, rest assured that the newer (old now) DI's are strong motors and BRP will stand behind them. The E-Tec's are the wave of the future for BRP and they have a lot of eggs($$$) in the basket, I sure wouldn't shy away from an '04 DI motor at all.
