Your second pic looks to be a car turned upside down.
Here are some pics from my first trip out with the Structure Scan and HDS units. I am still working on learning the sensitivity and colorline. This end of the river was very muddy.

I suspect it something like zooming in too fast, but I believe maybe my button is sticking. Thanks
need help understanding some things. when you look at a side scan shot what is the white line in the middle and the section of black on both sides a little? is that just it not reading righ undedr boat? looks like you can tell more detail with down scan than with side scan?? Note I have to HDS but have not ordered a scan kit yet coming soon. just trying to get ahead of for when I get it.
The white line down the middle is boat path and basically there is nor 'infor' there. The two 'black' spaces on the side of it is the actuall water column. For shallow water it wil be narrow but as you go deeper it will get wider. To see directly under boat you would use down scan to see that. I think most use the side scan to look and find things, mark waypoints then go back over it and get a better look.
Thanks.Understand a little better I would like to see some side scans of ledges in the summer. I here of guys looking at ledges all day till they see the shad on top and looks like a war zone with the bass feeding. Man the fish can't hide any more. Can't wait to get off 7 days a week and get to go
thanks, see it good on the down scan and can see them on the side scan. but on the side scan was you on top of ledge or off to side. looks like the same ledge on both side of boat. Im still confused a little.
I was running from the top of the ledge to the bottom. I new where the stumps
were ,just ran across to see if any thing was on them.

If he was to the right or left of the stumps then it would show on that particular side of the sidescan.
Only had my new units out a couple times, I think this is some bait just curious if you all agree. I got a lot to learn with it but I am getting better each time. I actually found this bait ball with the side imaging, marked way point and found it again multiple times, very happy with that.

awesome shots. thanks for this thread.
can someone give me a crash course on how to "interpret" the side scan images. I am sure that's been asked a million times, but I'll look at one & think I've got it figured out, and then I'll see another and I don't know which way to turn my head.
thanks for the help!
@TruGrit:
I can`t say it enough but buying the Structure Scan dvd from Doc Samson is the best you can do to fully understand your LSS1! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
And no I don`t have any shares or ohter commercial interests. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
Got this one off the lowrance facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/lowrance

http://i55.tinypic.com/xpyltt.gif looks like big wire spool and bass.
As i was trolling out to the main channel my sonar lit up....Here are a few screen shots from the unit....river oxbow leading into the main river channel and the bar fish were stacked...could have stayed all day and caught them.

A few more from a lake. On the pics with the waypoint visible that waypoint was created last year, seems to be a good seems to keep em around.

Those are some crisp images! It looks like a couple of nicer fish around the structure on the first pic besides all the baitfish. You can see the shadow on them so they were suspended.
everybodys images are so clear while mine are all blury especially on sidescan. you can bairly see the bottom image and to find something forget it as it is all just a haze.I have images from erie in 20 feet of water. it was not just mine tied to a friend with SS and his looked exactly like mine on his hds 10 with 4.0
Here are a few screen shots from Erie. I cannot say I am happy with my SS. The 1st photo is what 90% of the time my sidescan looks like now after the 4.0 install nothing helps and it scrolls really fast also on my 10 but not on my 8 and these shots are from a HDS 8 and a 10

Well from your pics it looks really wavy out there which on erie I could image is quite often. Other than that I don't think the 4.0 has anything to do with the lss images that is usually the 2d images. When you get structure on the screen put the cursor on it and mess with the settings(contrast, palette, and things)to see what it does to the image.
Racefan,
in your first picture, as the previous poster said, it appears you're in some fairly large rollers. Additionally, from the 2d shot, it doesn't appear there's any structure to be shown, so I'd say this looks about right.
Your 2nd & 3rd images look pretty good, but I'm assuming this is a rock formation with fairly smooth surface on the LH side.
I don't have much to comment on the 4th & 5th, other than to say I don't care for either palette.
The final image looks OK....I realize there is a bit of clutter, but the distribution indicates this may be due to water conditions. I would play with the noise filters for the LSS and see if you can improve this sort of picture.
One thing to note is that you definitely have some physical interference on the RH side of your LSS transducer. This is going to affect your returns on things that are from 0 to ~ 5' deep. I would try to clear this up if it were my system, but I don't think it's detrimental.
The best way to ensure your system is performing at its best, is to make sure there are no obstructions to the LSS, make sure it's in "clean" (non-turbulent) water at the speed you intend to use it at, make sure the transducer is aligned along its long axis to the keel of your boat (in other words, it can't be crooked), and do your best to level the transducer such that it's parallel to the water at the speed you're graphing.
Elaborating on that last statement, I've found that I pick up interference when I increase much above an idle speed. I'm not sure if this is engine, electrical, turbulent water, or what, but it looks a lot like your barge picture when I get this. With that being said, I know what to expect when I "plow" through the water at that speed. I also went to the trouble to measure the angle of the boat's deck at my optimal graphing speed (3-5 mph), then replicated this angle in the garage....I then adjusted the LSS transducer to be horizontal....this optimizes the parallelism of transducer to the water...which is what you want for the best images.
Don't mean to ramble...best wishes on getting satisfaction with your system.
