part to the starter that covers the bendix
i have a 03 225 ho. today while on the water i went to start er up and that little metal dome that covers the bendix broke almost in half horizontally. now the bendix has a lot of play up, down and to the sides and obvously i cant start the motor. my q is, that it looks like that peice just bolts to the top of the starter would i need to replace the whole starter or just that dome thing. im not sure if the bendix should normally have that much play, and if the starter is damaged or not now. i have to wait to call the dealer untill monday, as i just bought the boat less than a month ago. figured i would see what you guys t hink
thanks for all the replys, let me know if you need any more info

do you think i did any damage to the starter?
Re: part to the starter that covers the bendix (kris brantner)
I would suggest you remove the spark plugs and check them for damage and check the gear lube for chunks before you repair the starter, the starter is most likely not damaged any further but something caused the top of the starter to break.
