Baits for ultra clear water?
I've found a pond with water clarity like no where I've ever seen before. There are some really large bass in there +8lbs that can be seen cruising in water anywhere from 8ft deep to the bank. I can get them to follow a soft plastic swimbait fished on 10lb mono all the way back to the bank, but they won't take it. At the same time they will follow a Zoom horny toad fished on braid back to the bank without taking it. I've caught one fish between 5-6lbs in there on the frog and numerous other fish on the frog. I'm heade back this weekend with a kayak to give it a try, but I was wondering what some of you would throw in there. I've got some BBZ1 swimbaits and some True Tungeston Swimbaits that I'm going to try along with the frog bite in the pads. The bottom has a good mix of different types of vegetation growing all the way out to about 12ft deep. If it was a clean bottom I would say a drop shot or shakey head might work, but this grass is too thick.
I'll let ya'll know how it works out with the swimbaits.

I've been catching some bass in clear water at Tenoroc fish management area in Lakeland. I catch them on zara spooks, pop r and whopper craw in the flippin' blue color. Hope it helps http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Thanks! I'm figuring on being out there just before daylight. Hoping that the low light will help trick a few of the big gals up. I'll be throwing a variety of topwaters along with my frogs and swimbaits. I'm not kidding when I say this place has the potential for some serious double digit catches!! Just to walk around the lake and watch all the fish over 5lbs swimming around is absolutely fantastic!! Makes you feel like you're looking into the tank at Bass Pro!

I had a few orange grove lakes here in central florida that you described as ultra clear. I caught a lot of 10 lb.+ bass from those ponds with a buzz bait before daylight and at night. During the daylight hours most of the bigger fish were caught on silver or gold rapalas, When the sun got up above the tree line my best bait was a finess style worm in junebug or watermellon

In the very far back of lake 5 http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Everyone else that fishes 5 knows about it. We will be fishing back there and other boats pull right beside you to fish. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif If B is still low, we will be back there tomorrow. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

I forgot to mention, make sure your boat is waxed up real good so the tree limbs in the canals you go threw don't scratch the boat that much. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
