What could be happening here?
This is my oil filter out of my 07 Johnson 9.9 4 stroke model # J10EL4SU SER# S22039313 . The Photo was taken after 10 hour break in . I believe that what were are seeing is chunks of teflon tape. I have show 2 dealers and they were baffled. I spoke to Al @ evinrude cust servc. and he said to "Just play it by ear"! There was a lot more present in the filter housing, but at the time I thought it was normal. Is there a reason you could think of that might explain this or what I should do? Please see attached link. Thanks guys. [IMG][/IMG] http://groups.msn.com/ArimaBoa...=1504
Re: What could be happening here? (Tony Fox)
is the motor hooked into your main tank or is it a portable tank you are using.
Re: What could be happening here? (Mr.LEAD)
I am using main tank, however this is an oil filter. 4 stroke engines oiling systems are not suppose to have much to do with gas systems.
Re: What could be happening here? (Tony Fox)
I sent your pictures to tech services, just waiting to hear back from them.
Re: What could be happening here? (ChampioNman)
ChampioNman, I was wondering If your tech's had figured anything out on this. I am apprehensive about using this motor in fear of causing possible damage. "playing it by ear" just doesn't settle well. Is it possible someone at the factory might be missing a roll of teflon tape? just kidding, but seriously, is this possibly something for the dealer or factory to figure out? In the event I have oiling issues down the road (right after warranty expires), what recourse would I have if any? Please advise, and be advised Neither the dealer nor cust service seemed interested. Sincerely T.Fox

Nope I have not heard back from them. I'll make a phone call later today.

Tony,
Change the oil and filter and run the motor for about another 10 hrs. then inspect the filter again. If it looks the same, have the dealer call the factory and talk to the dealer hot line. If it looks OK, then it was a one time thing and go enjoy the motor.
