Spring Smallies Vacation...advice

Hi guys, I live in NJ, and would love to spend a week in the Spring targeting big smallies, anywhere in NY...staying either in motels or airbnb/cottage.

I thought about places near Erie/Ontario...but would love to hear of smaller, more manageable lakes that I can efficiently cover from my kayak.

I spend most of my fishing in saltwater...but smallies are my favorite species (fresh or salt!), and I've been dreaming about having my smallie "fix" for 2019 in the shortest amount of time lol. The possibility of a few over 5lbs over the course of a week...would make my year.

Also, when would be the best time to take a week off upstate? PMs or responses in the thread would be greatly appreciated!
