Seminloe Report

Here's the latest report on Seminole for you guys heading this way for the get together. Neil (Maxpress) and I hit the lake today to check out a few places on the
Florida side of the lake. I should have known right off the bat that it was gonna be
one of those days when I got half way to the lake this morning only to realize I had left my Humminbird 987si at home... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif So much for hitting my structure spots or for fishing the outside grass lines I like to fish..Anyway the water is up to almost full pool now and looks really good. After the water level was down for so long this year the grass and the pads have really made a strong comeback. They have made some places much more fishible but unfortunately at the same time they have also made access to a few of the better places on the Florida side of the lake impossible. I will say this looking at all the new vegetation that I saw along the river channel it should really help the lake.
Neil and I started this morning throwing frogs (Zoom Horny Toad and Spro Dean Rohas Frog) over matted grass. Nothing happening at our first spot so we headed on up the river to the entrance of Trails End Marina. Unfortunately someone was already sitting on the outside of the ledge near the rock pile so we couldn't get to that spot..However just north of the entrance of Trails End we found some good looking Flipping Water..For some unknown reason neither one us could get bit there either... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif I know there were fish in there because you could hear them moving under the mats but I think they were a little further back in the mats than we were fishing..After again going fishless at our second location we headed a little further north to check out another nearby location only to find out the low water conditions have turned it into a solid sea of thick grass and pads. Boy you just don't know how disappointed I was to see that..Normally it's mostly open water with grass and pads around the edges but I think now you could walk all the way across it from one pad to the next and never get your feet wet.
Finally we decided to head back south to a place near the old Pear Orchard or as it's sometimes referred to as "The Florida Bridge". We were headed to a back bay area to try again with the frog bite. After fighting through the grass to get back in there we fished for about an hour or so without as much as a sniff. I though for sure with the all the bream still bedding in the shallow sandy areas we would find one or two back in this area..but it was just not to be today.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif
I had just strapped my rods down and made my way over to where Neil was fishing on the other side of the bay when "IT" happened..You ever heard the saying where there smoke there's fire.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif Neil was saying something to me and all of sudden a plum of smoke started rising from the front deck of his boat. Then all of sudden it got bigger..I thought holly smokes call 9-1-1 we need a fire truck... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif Come to find out Neil had just shorted out his trolling motor plug and it had gotten hot enough to melt the wires at the plug..Things worked out though with minimal damage. Bad news was that Neil's trolling motor was shot..We then did the only thing us fishless guys could have done..We loaded the boats on the trailers and went to lunch..Called it day afterward..
The lake does look really good though and the weather up here is definitely on the change. Were starting to see lows at night in the mid 60's which should start bringing down the water temps some..The good fishing isn't too far ahead for us..I hope.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif

Started off the day with my Costa's on top of my cap when I left the landing and never knew when they blew off http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sick.gif

Then after weed whacking through hydrilla for about an hour I was 30 feet from being back in clear water and cranking the big motor when Victor says, "hey buddy, are you on fire?" http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif

I looked down and there were sparks and flames shooting out of the plug that plugs into the socket on the bow of the boat http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif The power cable burned completely into at the plug before I got it stomped out http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif . Hopefully all it will take to fix it is a new plug and socket...they seem to be welded together because I can't pull the plug out. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif I guess the wires had gotten weak at the plug from me dragging the foot control around all over the deck and bending them back and forth at that point a few hundred times. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif

I guess it could have been worse http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif Thank goodness I didn't have carpet to catch on fire too http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

It still wasn't a bad day overall http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif ... just wasn't a very profitable one http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif I saw parts of the lake I haven't been on in 25 years and after yesterday http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eyes.gif it may be another 25 before I see that part of it again http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
