97 Johnson 175 fast strike idling badly.....
Many of my recent post are the same, I am working some bugs out of my like new 97 model garage kept Ranger.
I just ran a quarter tank of old/bad gas through the motor because I was not aware it was several months old.........it ran but now it won't idle very well.
Can I start off with new plugs ?
And if that does not work, is there "tried and tested" carb cleaner I can pour in my 93 octane gas to halp ?
Does anyone know what to gap my plugs at or do they come gapped properly ?
Thanks,
Robbie

Drain that gas and use it in your lawnmower, put fresh gas in, pull the air cover off the carbs. Take out one carb drain plug and pump the bulb rinsing the carbout, catching all you can, do this on each and all 6 of 'em hoping to get any gunk and trash outta the needlevalves. Then see if she will run better. If not it may need the carbs cleaned and rebuilt. Be sure to clean the belly pans with h2o when done with the carbs and before firing her up!!
