Need help with a trailer issue
Posted this in "Trailer & Towing" section also, but thought maybe someone in the Alabama area may be able to point me to someone local (Montgomery area)
I have a 2003 Super Pro 190 with a single axle (torsion suspension). I noticed last Friday as I was gettin ready to head out fishing that the trailer was sitting lower on one side and it appears the torsion joint (or whatever you call it) has dropped some. My question is can this be repaired without replacing the entire axle, and if so, anyone know where to find the torsion/hub part? It appears the one on my trailer has two screws holding this piece to the axle, but they look like awful small bolts to be holding such a critical assembly so I'm not sure if they actually separate at that point.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Bryan
Re: Need help with a trailer issue (finSbassin)
Bryan,...Not good,.....I'm pretty sure you have to replace the whole axle.....your trailer should have a 3500 lb., 22 degree angle torsion unit.......go to this site http://www.trailerpart.com/
They run about 3 hundred bucks with hubs plus shipping. Not bad considering you need to have new bearings anyway every so often
Some of the older torsion axles had adjustments but I think yours is a replacement only type.
Re: Need help with a trailer issue (buzzn)
Thanks for the info Rick. I've been lucky so far with not having any major problems with the boat, motor or trailer in the 6 years I've owned it....so I should just be grateful it's only a few hundred dollar fix. Of course my wife may see it differently! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
I was holding my breath all the way to and from Eufaula hoping it wasn't going to drop down any further.
I'll have to check and see if that axle will work; my axle is not straight, it has to v-shape bends in it but I didn't really pay too much attention as to whether they needed to be there for clearance or not.
Re: Need help with a trailer issue (finSbassin)
If your axle is a "v" I'm pretty sure you have to replace it with a like kind.......do a search for "torsion axles for boat trailers" and you will find folks who will make the "v" shaped axles,....or those folks you saw may do it, just ask them,....good luck.....if you need help putting it on give a shout...good luck
Re: Need help with a trailer issue (buzzn)
I see that the "v" axle is called a "drop center axle"....look here..... http://shop.easternmarine.com/...D=168

Thanks. I liked the price on the straight axle more though. It never fails that I have the model which requires the special and more expensive parts http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
