Miami dolphins are also looking for a new head coach.
Interesting that they hired Daiz that quick after Richt's "unexpected" retirement. Sounds more like Miami new Diaz was gone but didn't want to lose him, and the only way to keep him was to promote to HC. And maybe Richt got pushed out in a prolonged process to secure Diaz, but they are calling it retirement to save face... I mean they just gave him a 5 year extension earlier this year. Just speculation though, I could be way off. Could be just as reported, Richt may have had enough with the dismal season, bowl blowout, and pathetic recruiting class - but I suspect there's more to the story and it will come out at some point... it always does.
Miami to pay Temple 4 million to buyout Diaz contract. This from the team that can't afford to play home games against Group of 5 teams so had to go play them on the road instead, ie Toledo, FIU, etc.
Miami has plenty of money, the fact they play home and away series with a team like Toledo is definitely based on money - but not because the university is hurting for cash. Why pay a team like Toledo 1.5 million so they don’t have to play a road game when they can man up and make the trip once. Lots of programs want to be compensated for making the trip on their dime and not getting the revenue of having the game. Don’t see an issue with it.
An Richt wasn’t forced out, if that was the case they never would have let Diaz out the door two weeks ago to Temple. I think Richt did a ton for the program, things that cannot be measuerrd in WINS or LOSSES. Like the indoor practice facility... Diaz is a good hire, he’s respected in the program and a solid recruiter, his biggest factor will be who he brings in to run the offense... don’t be surprised if Applewhite is the OC
