Jim, without the model and serial #'s non of the gurus have an idea if its a DI or a carb engine. Both are good engines IMHO The 03 DI had a year of BRP technology behind them which made 'em superior to the pre-BRP years, later years had even more improvements, It would be hard IMHO to improve on the OMC carb designs. Get 'em #'s up if ya can and these guys will give ya all the info out there.

If it's a johnson 175 it's a carbed 2 stroke & a very good engine. You will have to use omc/brp controlls . The saltwater engines are the same as the freswater ones with the exception of the the steering rod. it's stainless steel on the salwater version.

You're right Chuck!! Key word is Johnson here, they stayed carbed in those years then dwindled away after a brief stint in the 4 stroke genre.....a shame in my book but.............

Re: Johnson 175 HP 2 stroke Outboard (jimlmackjr)
Nope not with a 25" prop shaft. And you've posted 2 different motors on is a DI the other is a carb. Johnson of that year were carbed and Rudes were DI motors.
