Started cleaning my 1993 201XL and noticed some surface cracks in the splash well. I had stopped using a transom saver two years ago and went to the factory installed arms on the Evinrude because the transom saver caused a crack in my lower unit. Not sure if this has caused the cracks in the splash well or not. I can't tell if they are in the structure of the boat or if they are just cosmetic scratches. Anyone have this problem?
Probably just cosmetic stress cracks. Keep an eye on them, if you shake the motor do you see or feel any give in the tramsom? If it were me I'd get some type of motor toter... Dan
My 95 201 pro XL has them too - had them checked out and its just cracks in the gel coat and not structural. I believe some of the stratos boats of this era had a problem with the gel coat that causes this. Are there any other places with similar cracks like near the cleats or the hand rails??? If so its prob just in the gel coat. As was said above, grab your lower unit and try and move it up and down and see if the transom feels solid. If your real worried have a professional check it out but my guess is that its the gel coat.

All bass boats run on lake erie for several years have gel coat cracks.
My last stratos looked more like a spider web then a clear coat.
